The VP, Canadian Shared Services leads a team of 500+ employees delivering differentiated services to Sun Life businesses across Canada. Reporting to the SVP, Operations for Sun Life Canada, this role is crucial in advancing our shared service delivery transformation journey, creating an industry-leading business service experience that is proactive, digital, and financially sustainable in 4 key areas:

Canadian Delivery Services (including Document Services and Distribution Compensation) Operations Learning & Performance Support & Problem Resolution Service Integration and Supplier Relationship & Management.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and execute the overall shared services strategy, aligning with business goals
  • Drive strategic planning and business transformation initiatives
  • Create and share a compelling vision for the future of shared services

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee daily operations, focusing on efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Modernize infrastructure and processes to support client service objectives
  • Execute transformational initiatives leveraging appropriate technology solutions
  • Ensure robust financial and risk management practices

People & Leadership

  • Build and mentor high-performing, diverse and inclusive teams
  • Foster a positive, inclusive work environment
  • Promote employee engagement and development
  • Develop operating plans aligned with shared service objectives
  • Support global digitization mandates for Canada
  • Lead innovation and modernization activities
  • Collaborate with other leaders to ensure integrated strategies and effective governance

Client Service And Experience

Risk Management

  • Operate within enterprise risk guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with SLF Guidelines of Conduct and all relevant policies and regulations
  • Design and implement effective governance and internal controls

Qualification & Requirements

  • 10+ years in senior leadership roles managing large, complex operations
  • Proven experience leading shared services bringing innovative ideas and achieving strong partner satisfaction, track record of driving large operational transformation and process optimization
  • Degree in relevant field such as business, engineering or technology
  • Deep knowledge of shared services processes and methodologies for improvement including Lean management techniques and Six Sigma tools
  • Deep understanding of cost, demand, and partner/client satisfaction drivers
  • Strong strategic thinking, communication, financial acumen and relationship building skills
  • Ability to partner closely with senior business leaders across Sun Life Canada and Corporate/DCTS functions
  • Understanding of digital channels and industry best practices and trends
  • Financial services industry knowledge and bilingualism an asset
  • As this position is posted in several locations, we specify that bilingualism (French, English, both oral and written) is required for Quebec only for the frequent interactions with English and French-speaking colleagues or internal partners across Canada or worldwide.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors.

In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
