Description

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Finance, the Vice President of Finance will provide executive leadership within the Finance function for UMass Memorial. This position is responsible for overseeing financial planning & analysis (FP&A), business intelligence, and budgeting functions for all entities within UMass Memorial. As a shared service for the organization, this position will work collaboratively with the individual institutions to provide regular analysis of financial results.

Key Responsibilities

Major Responsibilities:

  • Leads the financial planning & analysis (FP&A) function, including forecasting, budgeting, and long-term financial planning.
  • Oversees the business intelligence team to provide actionable insights and data-driven recommendations to support strategic initiatives.
  • Develops and manages the annual operating and capital budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Provides financial leadership and guidance to senior management, department heads, and other key stakeholders.
  • Monitors financial performance and develop strategies to address variances and improve financial outcomes.
  • Ensures compliance with all financial regulations and reporting requirements.
  • Collaborates with other departments to support operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Manages and mentors a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Performs similar or other related duties as required or directed.

Standard Executive Level Responsibilities:

  • Directs and supervises assigned personnel including performance evaluations, scheduling, orientation, and training. Makes recommendations on employee hires, transfers, promotions, demotions, discipline, terminations, and similar actions.
  • Develops and recommends the budgets for the areas managed. Ensures adequate equipment and supplies for department. Manages activities to assure financial goals are met.
  • Encourages and supports diverse views and approaches, demonstrates Standards of Respect, and contributes to creating and maintaining an environment of professionalism, respect, tolerance, civility and acceptance toward all employees, patients and visitors.
  • Integrates diversity into departmental objectives, such as hiring, promotions, training, vendor selections, etc.
  • Fosters the effective integration of efforts with system-wide initiatives. Participates in performance improvement initiatives and demonstrates the use of quality improvement in daily operations.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, DPH, etc. Develops and maintains procedures necessary to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures that department complies with hospital established policies, quality assurance programs, safety, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Develops and maintains established departmental policies, procedures, and objectives.
  • Ensures compliance to all health and safety regulations and requirements.

Qualification & Requirements

License/Certification/Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.

Preferred:

  • MBA or CPA.

Experience/Skills:

Required:

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in finance, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a health care organization.
  • Strong knowledge of financial planning & analysis (FP&A), business intelligence, and budgeting processes.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience with Workday and Workday adaptive a plus.
