Description

TEGNA is seeking a dynamic and strategic Vice President of Shared Services. The position, which will be based at WTHR-TV in Indianapolis, IN, will report directly to TEGNA’s Corporate Controller. The position will oversee a staff of approximately 70 employees providing various accounting and transactional services to our television stations and our corporate finance operation. We are searching for an innovation-oriented leader who has the experience and vision to lead initiatives within the group to improve operational efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance process performance.

The Vice President of Shared Services is a key leadership role directing and managing all centralized transactional and operational accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger accounting and other services to ensure accurate and timely completion of monthly financial closings in compliance with our standard operating procedures and generally accepted accounting principles. This position will manage multiple shared services providing strategic accounting support and analysis to TEGNA’s television stations and corporate financial operations. Beyond day-to-day operations, the successful candidate will champion customer service and continuous improvement through transformational change initiatives such as standardization and enhanced use of information technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations and management of shared services center for accounts payable, fixed assets, general ledger, accounts receivable, credit, collections and other accounting services.
  • Identify, design, and implement process improvement strategies (including the adoption of artificial intelligence).
  • Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the organization.
  • Develop and track KPIs to monitor the success of improvement initiatives and report results to executive leadership.
  • Manage a superior control environment ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures and generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Maintain positive relationships with our television stations and corporate offices.
  • Serve as primary contact for internal and external auditors, ensuring timely response to audit requests.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, with a CPA OR Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of fifteen years relevant work experience, including three years in a management position overseeing large teams with a focus on operational excellence and/or process improvement.
  • Prior management experience in a shared service operation preferred.
  • Prior broadcast media industry experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with an outward-facing orientation.
  • Able to interact with all levels of management including corporate officers and TV station general managers.
  • Self-directed leader with the ability to implement best practices in a shared service environment.
  • Ability to effectively recruit, lead, direct, coach, and develop talent.
  • Energetic, can-do attitude, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced service environment.
  • Familiarity with AI preferred
  • Strong technical skills including generally accepted accounting principles and proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, with prior experience operating Oracle Cloud ERP, Wide Orbit traffic/billing, and AppZen accounts payable systems a plus.
