Description

GVG Governance and Strategy is responsible for establishing, enhancing, and executing the governance framework for valuation processes across the enterprise. This includes driving consistent valuation standards, strengthening model risk controls, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing independent valuation oversight, and contributing to long-term strategy for valuation capabilities. The role works closely with Finance, Risk, Model Validation, Operations, and senior leadership to ensure transparency, accuracy, and integrity of valuation practices.

Independent valuations is one of the primary controls to ensure accurate and consistent marking of transactions the bank has on its books. GVG is a cross product and cross region function within the CFO function that is responsible for governance, oversight, challenge, development and enhancement work around the valuations framework.

Key Responsibilities

The valuations framework includes:

  • Independent Price Verification (IPV): Which is the process of comparing internal prices and parameters used to mark position valuations to a corresponding set of independently verifiable external prices and parameters.
  • Valuation Adjustments (VA’s): Which are balance sheet adjustments taken to reflect:
  • The close out costs of positions
  • Model deficiencies or approximate bookings that may cause material mismarks of positions.
  • Coordinating regular regulatory disclosures. Including, amongst others, Prudent Valuation, Fair Value Hierarchy.
  • Regulatory and Management Reporting

GVG itself is split into three functions:

  • Strategy and Governance: Lead on valuation control initiatives and consolidated reporting. Responsible for coordinating implementation of changes and updates to the regulatory environment.
  • Methodology: Review, challenge and development of methodologies used in valuations.
  • Infrastructure Development: Development of technology initiatives related to valuations

GVG Governance and Strategy responsibilities include:

  • Maintain appropriate governance, framework, and metrics for effective compliance with policies and regulatory expectations pertaining to valuation control and valuation risk management
  • Lead initiatives and deliver solutions that strengthen governance and enhance reporting of valuation control results and valuation risks.
  • Prepare and present monthly valuation control results to the senior stakeholders. Partner with Business Finance Control (BFC) to review and challenge valuation control results.
  • Lead and develop strategic solutions to enhance valuation control framework, including automation, data quality, and analytics improvements.
  • Ensure timely remediation of regulatory matters requiring attention, audit findings and associated governance.
  • Ensure compliance with enterprise policies and guidelines, SOX controls, regulatory frameworks.

Responsibilities

We are looking for an individual to join the India Valuations Governance and Strategy group which sits within the CFO Global Valuations Group (GVG). Role is for individual contributor and focuses on valuation reporting, strategic initiatives and compliance with regulatory standards.

  • Drive key valuation change program and strategic initiatives including enhancement to valuation governance and documentation, automation, and control improvements. Coordinate globally across Finance, Market Risk, Model Risk and Front Office.
  • Deliver timely remediation of regulatory matters requiring attention, audit findings and associated reporting demands.
  • Lead and support compliance with Prudent Valuation requirements, including AVA methodologies, documentation, and regulatory deliverables.
  • Contribute to development of Valuation Control policies and guidelines, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory priorities and accurate interpretation of regulatory requirements.
  • Provide guidance on valuation control policy and regulatory matters.
  • Monitor emerging regulatory developments and assess impact on valuation processes, control, and reporting.
  • Contribute to global and regional valuation governance forums, preparing materials, analyzing issues, and tracking actions.
  • Provide independent and analytical challenge on valuation methodologies, IPV, VA and AVA results
  • Support internal and external audit and regulatory engagements, ensuring timely provision of responses.

Qualification & Requirements

Education

  • Postgraduate degree or accounting qualification (e.g. C.A./ MBA Finance)
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field of study

Certifications If Any

  • CFA / FRM certified candidates would be preferred

Experience Range

  • 10-12 years with at least 3-5 years’ experience in Valuation Control role

Foundational skills

  • Knowledge of valuation control concepts, processes, and governance frameworks
  • Solid understanding of financial markets, products and valuations.
  • Proven experience of providing thought leadership to overcome challenges
  • Strong written and spoken communication skills, including ability to explain complex concepts, and proven influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Experience with regulatory matters related to valuation.
  • Adaptable to changing circumstances and evolving business needs.
  • Able to reprioritize responsibilities effectively as situations change.
  • Ability to perform effectively within demanding timeframes.
  • Ability to work in a global matrix organization and multi-geography, multi-cultural offshore service delivery environment.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow in a fast-paced environment.
