Description
As a technical product manager for the Data Extraction Service you will work with a distributed development team to design, test, deliver, and operate the data extraction components of the Oracle application platform. The data extraction service allows Oracle Fusion applications to define extensible extraction queries, run ad hoc extractions, schedule full or incremental extraction jobs, and run complex hierarchical queries over data modeled using a new object relational mapping system, all while ensuring enterprise-grade performance, reliability, and security. Over time, this service will be adopted by every Oracle Fusion application.
In this role you’ll help to define the strategy and roadmap for the data extraction service. Your customers will be internal Oracle application development teams, both teams that are modernizing existing product architectures and teams that are building new products from scratch. Your team will build the data extraction service and operate it in production across Oracle’s global fleet of data centers, providing key application capabilities to Oracle customers around the world.
This position offers flexible work options: fully remote, hybrid, or in-office, based on your preference.
Key Responsibilities
You’ll play a pivotal role in creating the strategic vision and ensuring the successful execution of the Data Extraction Service, but you will also be part of a team delivering services that comprise an overall applications platform for Oracle.
You will work with your team to develop the feature set and roadmap for this service and will evangelize it to Oracle application development teams, driving adoption as teams move onto the new Oracle applications platform.
On a day-to-day basis you will:
- Work with senior management, other product managers, and developers to shape the overall vision for cloud-native shared services and for the Data Extraction service in particular.
- Work with application development teams across Oracle to understand their requirements, gaining expertise in Oracle applications and customer needs along the way.
- Use what you learn to develop and evangelize a vision for the Data Extraction service, and to manage a product roadmap and backlog that effectively balances short term needs with long term strategy.
- Develop themes, epics, and stories to document functional requirements, performance requirements, operational requirements, and quality requirements for the service.
- Work with a development team to develop, deliver, monitor, and continuously improve the service.
- Collaborate with application development teams and other members of the Technical Architecture group to develop effective and innovative solutions to customer needs, and to ensure that applications are using our services in the most appropriate ways.
- Document and explain recommended patterns, best practices, and anti-patterns.
- Present your plans and your results to senior management and to other groups within Oracle.
Qualification & Requirements
This is a deeply technical role for someone passionate about platform development, not a traditional application product management role. Success in this role requires a strong combination of skills:
- A solid understanding of object relational mapping concepts, databases and database queries, and data extraction patterns and use cases.
- An understanding of OLAP, data warehousing. and business intelligence is a plus.
- Experience as a platform product manager, a passion for solving complex problems, and a desire to dig into the details to understand how things work and why they work the way they do.
- The ability to put yourself in the position of an Oracle developer and understand what they need from our services.
- Strong communication skills to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders and to present to the highest levels of Oracle management.
- The confidence to ask questions and challenge both technical and business assumptions.
- Experience designing, delivering, and operating cloud-native software and APIs through the entire software development lifecycle.
