Description

The Wealth Management data governance group is a first line function that provides execution support for critical data governance and data management activities across all of Wealth Management’s global businesses. This role guides the evolution of WM’s data strategy and influences strategic investments in data to support business strategy and regulatory compliance. This senior director position reports to the the VP of Data & AI for Global Wealth Management.

Sr. Director WM Data Governance

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead data governance execution strategy to ensure data risk management is consistent, effective, and efficient in practice across WM globally.
  • Function as main liaison to the Chief Data Office and second line risk functions. Review current data management and related policies and standards along with synthesis of current and upcoming regulatory landscape, findings, and external industry trends to provide gaps and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Collaborate with compliance to assess, synthesize, and communicate implications on data assets, and data provisioning strategy arising from new and changed regulations.
  • Collaborating with both business and technology partners, lead and direct approach and execution for WM data remediation efforts.
  • Ensure effectiveness and oversee execution of WM governance controls. Lead shared data management services and governance risk and control self-assessment activities. Continually assess, identify, and address any gaps or improvements in the control environment as needed.
  • Represent WM in multiple risk areas including Privacy, AI, Compliance, and Model Risk. Collaborate with partners to evolve maturity in these areas.
  • Articulate and prioritize governance requirements for data management automation investments.
  • Act as a key contact and primary support for regulatory, compliance and audit data matters; provide first line data risk management point of view on strategies, driving change where appropriate.
  • Work with other data related functions, privacy, security, and IT to help drive the strategic use, control, and management of data, aligning with them on standards, tooling, and approaches.

Qualification & Requirements

Must-have:

  • 10 years of data experience in financial services
  • 8 years’ experience in data management
  • 2-4 in first- or second-line risk management and/or governance at a financial institution
  • 2 years in strategy development
  • 2 years in team management
  • Prior experience implementing and supporting risk programs
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory and legislative guidelines
  • Experience managing projects including planning, implementation, and reporting
  • Demonstrated interpersonal relationship building and team facilitation skills
  • Proven leadership skills
  • Ability to work in a demanding environment with competing priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, comfortable interacting with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels

Nice-to-have:

  • Experience with Canadian, US, and UK regulatory reporting and data regulations.
