Description
As the Senior Director of Data Architecture and Engineering, you will lead transformative initiatives to build scalable, enterprise-grade data platforms and pipelines, empowering our EDA organization to provide actionable insights that deliver innovative shopping experiences for our customers. Reporting to the SVP of Enterprise Data & Analytics, this role is pivotal in shaping the organization’s overall data strategy, fostering a culture of innovation, and making a direct impact to the business.
Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Mentorship: Lead, inspire, and mentor a high-performing team of data engineers and architects. Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning. Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities

Data Strategy & Architecture: Define and implement a comprehensive data architecture strategy that aligns with Macy’s business objectives, supports advanced analytics initiatives, and ensures data quality, efficiency, and adherence to data standards.

Data Pipeline Development: Oversee the design, development, and optimization of robust and scalable data pipelines to ensure efficient data acquisition, processing, and delivery.

Data Quality: Collaborate with Data Governance teams to establish and enforce data quality standards, ensuring data integrity and compliance with security and privacy regulations.

Stakeholder Partnership: Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, Data Science teams, Business Intelligence teams, and technology partners to understand their data needs and deliver solutions that drive business value.

Technology Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging data technologies and trends, evaluating and recommending new tools and approaches to enhance Macy’s data capabilities.

Data Expertise & Advisory: Serve as a trusted advisor and subject matter expert on data architecture, engineering, and best practices for business leaders and technical teams.

Financial Management: Effectively manage team resources and budgets, ensuring alignment with departmental and organizational goals.
Qualification & Requirements
Skills You Will Need
- Executive Stakeholder Management: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with a focus on proactively engaging executive stakeholders, understanding their challenges, and translating business needs into technical solutions.
- Technical Acumen: Deep understanding of data engineering principles and best practices. Expertise in GCP cloud technologies (BigQuery, Dataflow, Dataproc, etc.), data pipelines, enterprise data warehousing, and large-scale data transformations.
- Ownership Mentality: Takes full ownership and accountability for project success and the continuous improvement of data engineering processes and operating models.
Who You Are
- 12+ years of progressive experience in a scaled, shared-service Enterprise Data Analytics organization with at least 5 years of people leadership experience.
- Leader with a passion for data and analytics who can build credibility and rally the organization around a clear, common data vision.
- Track record of success influencing executive stakeholders and being a trusted business partner.
- An ongoing learner that influences others to think innovatively.
- Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
- Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
