Description

Are you a detail-oriented finance professional with a passion for process improvement, funding analysis, and service excellence? Join Chartwell as a Senior Accountant, Shared Services and play a key role in supporting the financial health of our residences across Canada.

You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure accurate Ministry of Health reporting, funding audits, and timely financial reporting. With a focus on both regulatory compliance and operational effectiveness, your work helps make residents’ lives better every single day.

Sr. Accountant Shared Services

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and file quarterly and annual Ministry of Health (MOH) reports for Alberta and BC-funded residences.
  • Lead FIRMS and BCLTC audit preparation and ensure compliance with funding audits and survey submissions.
  • Assist with budget reviews, validating funding revenue and staffing forecasts for funded portfolios.
  • Prepare monthly global journal entries and conduct reconciliation of shared services accounts.
  • Perform analysis on special funding projects, utilities, taxes, volume rebates, and other non-controllable expenses.
  • Collaborate with Corporate Accounting during quarterly reviews and audits.
  • Support variance analysis reporting and financial communication to internal stakeholders.
  • Liaise with government agencies and external auditors in a professional and timely manner.
  • Provide guidance and financial insights to operational teams and corporate leadership.

Qualification & Requirements

  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance.
  • Post-secondary degree in Business, Finance or Accounting.
  • CPA designation (or in progress) strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of IFRS and Canadian GAAP required.
  • Advanced Excel skills (macros, pivot tables, graphs) and experience with Yardi and Hyperion (preferred).
  • Proven analytical skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to service excellence.
