Description

As Senior Counsel you will be the go-to legal partner for our Global Business Services (GBS) group, which includes critical functions such as Finance, Global Risk Management, Human Resources, and Workplace Experience. GBS teams work across the entire Capital Group enterprise, enabling all other departments to accomplish their work.

Senior Counsel, Global Business Services

Key Responsibilities

Employment Law:

  • Provide legal guidance on employment-related matters including hiring, terminations, employee relations, and workplace policies.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Support HR in handling sensitive investigations and disputes.

Privacy & Data Protection:

  • Advise on compliance with global and domestic privacy laws (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Draft and review privacy policies, data processing agreements, and internal data governance protocols.
  • Support incident response and data breach investigations.

Contracts and Intellectual Property

  • Review and negotiate a variety of vendor and other third-party agreements
  • Assist in managing and protecting intellectual property portfolios, including conducting research, preparing filings, and supporting enforcement efforts

Leasing & Real Estate:

  • Review and negotiate commercial leases and related real estate documents.
  • Advise on lease renewals, terminations, and compliance with lease obligations.

Corporate Recordkeeping:

  • Oversee corporate governance and ensure accurate maintenance of legal and regulatory records.
  • Manage entity formation, annual filings, and board documentation.

Qualification & Requirements

  • You have outstanding legal experience, including a J.D. and a minimum of seven years of law firm and/or in-house counsel experience
  • You possess deep expertise in one or more of the following specialties: Privacy, employment, contracts, recordkeeping, or leasing
  • You are strategic, partnering actively and continuously looking for ways to enhance the overall function, as well as proactively managing and reducing employment risk across the organization
  • You are agile, able to anticipate and deliver on the needs of a sophisticated, and fast-paced business and possess the ability to simultaneously balance a wide range of transactions and projects
  • You are collaborative and influential, able to communicate effectively across a broad range of stakeholders, and providing a highly credible leadership position on employment and litigation matters, both internally and externally
  • California Bar (or ability to obtain CA bar license) required

Benefits

In addition to a highly competitive base salary, per plan guidelines, restrictions and vesting requirements, you also will be eligible for an individual annual performance bonus, plus Capital’s annual profitability bonus plus a retirement plan where Capital contributes 15% of your eligible earnings.
