Description
Directs the development of accounting strategic plans consistent with the established corporate strategic plans, and ensures their proper execution, including transactions related to cash, receivables, fixed assets, trade payables, tax payments and accrued or prepaid expenses.
Key Responsibilities
- Supports the growth of an entity-wide financial shared services environment, focusing on Acquire to Retire and Record to Report functions.
- Develops, analyzes, and interprets accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget, and other matters bearing on the fiscal soundness and operating effectiveness of the organization.
- Performs management reporting and policy-making as it pertains to the department. Serves as the corporate finance expert for technical and analytical guidance in identifying and solving problems within the functional limits of the department.
- Manages the General Accounting and Acquire to Retire manager positions, supporting their day-to-day activities.
- Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports as necessary.
- Maintains system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
- Manages the completion of balance sheet and income statement variance analysis and account reconciliations. Presents financial statements and related disclosures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Ensures that the system of internal controls and the system of accounting controls are in place and functioning properly.
- Ensures the proper consolidation of multiple-company financial statements.
- Coordinates the annual audit of the financial records with the independent auditors.
- Oversees personnel needs of the department including selecting, coaching, and training employees and evaluating employee performance. Provides input into termination, compensation, and promotion decisions.
Qualification & Requirements
Required
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field
- 10+ years of relevant experience
Preferred Qualifications include:
- Master’s degree (or equivalent) in similar fields
- CPA license
- Experience in shared services
Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
- Required to be in Houston, TX area and report to WM’s Corporate office. (Only WM candidates may receive relocation assistance.)
