Description
The Managing Director, Head US Insurance Distribution will work for the Global Financial Institutions Group (Investment Banking) and report to the Global Head of FIG.
The Managing Director will provide a combination of deep industry sector expertise, innovative thinking in a team-based approach and world class execution across a full suite of products to clients through an integrated Capital Markets platform using a sector ecosystem approach
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborates to generate creative, client-focused solutions to prospective and current clients.
- Demonstrates ability to win business from new clients and develop new client relationships.
- Demonstrates connectivity at senior leadership levels of key players in the US insurance distribution / brokerage sector and the key financial sponsors
- Generates significant revenue over a sustained period of time and recognizes revenue opportunities to cross-sell products from all areas of the bank.
- Uses expertise in financial markets to cultivate new and existing client relationships.
- Oversees deal origination. Operates as key member of the deal team with efforts to maximize sector penetration & returns.
- Creates client pitch books with respect to financial solutions and leads client presentations.
- Monitors client, industry and regulatory agencies for potential changes that may affect client portfolio & business needs.
- Initiates contact with partners for new client sales.
- Leads the deal team in executing pitches to prospective clients with efforts that maximize sector penetration and returns.
- Provides outstanding deal, business development, and other expertise.
- Negotiates transactions with clients for highly complex deals.
- Successfully represents BMO’s capabilities with new and existing clients.
- Develops and maintains strong client relationships with decision makers.
- Acts as a client advocate to deliver exemplary service and advice in a professional, ethical, and conscientious manner.
- Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
- Maintains awareness of all firm products and services offered and facilitates means of receiving continuous updates.
- Develops an expert understanding of business/group challenges.
- Recommends measures to improve organizational effectiveness.
- Represents the bank and demonstrates leadership through participation on industry working groups.
- Recommends business priorities, advises on resource requirements, and develops roadmap for strategic execution.
- Manages resources and leads the execution of strategic initiatives to deliver on business and financial goals.
- Works with specialists as needed to support successful deal completion.
- Effectively influences and gains support of other areas of the firm to deliver client solutions.
- Ensures alignment between stakeholders.
- Significantly contributes to building an integrated team by breaking down inefficiencies and role modeling teamwork with a client-centered approach.
- Acts as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators.
- Creates financial models to analyze client portfolios and anticipate client needs.
- Uses financial analysis to proactively identify opportunities to cross-sell.
- Generates updated financial models / analyses as business needs and industry requirements dictate.
- Analyzes/ assesses industry compilations.
- Applies appropriate technical concepts and completes / leads consistent and reliable technical and financial reports / analyses to support client deliverables.
- Leads in defining the communication plan designed to positively influence or change behaviour; develops tailored messaging; and identifies appropriate distribution channels.
- Understands the complexity of transactions and related risks (credit, market, operational, legal/compliance, etc.).
- Balances the Bank’s risk appetite with the client needs when making recommendations/ proposal.
- Makes decisions based on a strong understanding of risks; effectively evaluates risk-return trade-offs, and proactively takes accountability for risks assumed.
- Ensures compliance with Bank policies and guidelines applicable to the division.
- Initiates amendments to current policies and guidelines and ensures that new policies and guidelines are established when necessary or appropriate.
- Ensures that systems, reporting, and other controls are sufficiently robust to meet applicable policies and guidelines and mitigate risk.
- Ensures all risk management and compliance reports are current, accurate, and relevant.
- Acts in a leadership role to drive improved efficiency and effectiveness.
- Identifies issues, gaps, and process improvements through open communication both internally and with other bank areas, and by monitoring productivity against benchmarks.
- Integrates information from multiple sources to enable more efficient processes, enhanced analysis, and/or streamlined reporting.
- Reviews and guides work of team members to deliver business results.
- Delivers financial modeling to support strategic recommendations to clients.
- Considers risk, internal controls and compliance as part of day-to-day accountabilities and adheres to policies and procedures.
- Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO.
- Influences how teams/groups work together.
- Applies expertise and thinks creatively to address unique or ambiguous situations and to find solutions to multiple, interdependent, complex problems.
- Communicates abstract concepts in simple terms.

Qualification & Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in investment banking, negotiating and structuring financial transactions. This should include some in a corporate lending environment developing business.
- Relevant business services sector experience is highly desired.
- Excellent knowledge of the bank’s products and services.
- Expert knowledge in one or more areas as recognized by clients and peers.
- Significant experience in management, change management, and leadership.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, including supporting the career development of junior professionals.
- Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools.
- Seasoned expert with extensive industry knowledge.
