Description

In this role, you will lead a team of approximately 25 people based in Bengaluru, supporting Tesco Group’s Internal Controls over Financial Reporting programme.

Head – Controls & Compliance

Key Responsibilities

Oversee Tesco Group’s financial control testing programme:

  • Day to day management and oversight of our control testing team.
  • Deliver our annual testing programme which includes operating effectiveness, design & implementation and remediation testing.
  • Maintain a high standard and quality of testing that evolves with the business and industry expectations.
  • Manage the capacity across the testing team throughout the year.
  • Ensure consistency across business units, testing types and ultimately our testing conclusions.
  • Prepare reporting and analysis of testing results.

Oversee our issue management process:

  • Stand-over the process monitoring and updating the status of control deficiencies, both those identified by our external auditors and through our internal processes.
  • Finance Director and above reporting on deficiencies.
  • Support local control owners to remediate deficiencies, particularly any that are large and complex.

Drive and embed controls culture through:

  • Designing and delivering training
  • Developing control communities / networks to support control owners and operators.
  • Establish a programme of management testing and self assessments to support our existing testing programme.
  • Partner with control owners and operators to understand and support their needs and knowledge gaps.

Evolve our testing function over time:

  • Incorporate the output from Continuous Controls Monitoring and Data Analytics into our testing programme.
  • Support the testing team to take on new and varied control testing in the future (e.g. ESG control testing)
  • Continuous improvement of the process and function

Qualification & Requirements

  • SOX / Internal controls implementation and design improvement.
  • Knowledge of core financial end to end processes.
  • Knowledge of auditing concepts and principles.
  • Understanding of IT General Controls
  • Knowledge of Reporting and Corporate Governance.
  • Ability to manage teams across multiple locations
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and training to end users.
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant subject.
  • Professional Finance Qualification
  • Strong communication skills to include report writing, presentation, influencing and relational skills.
