Description
Based in the Philippines shared service center, the Financial Controller, APAC will be accountable for statutory and controllership matters across the Asia Pacific region, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, local statutory requirements, and applicable accounting standards. While transactional and Record-to-Report activities are operated through the shared service center under the responsibility of the Head of Accounting Operations, this role provides regional oversight, governance, and in-country partnership to ensure financial integrity, statutory compliance, and effective issue resolution. The role will also support the transition of in-country finance activities into the shared service center model and help ensure that governance, controls, and local requirements are embedded effectively throughout the transition journey.
Key Responsibilities
Statutory and Controllership Oversight
- Provide regional statutory and controllership oversight across APAC, ensuring obligations are met in alignment with corporate accounting policies and applicable accounting standards
- Act as the accountable finance leader for statutory matters across the region, while operational activities are delivered through the shared service center under the responsibility of the Head of Accounting Operations
- Review key financial and balance sheet matters with in-country stakeholders and shared service center teams to ensure financial integrity and appropriate escalation and resolution of material issues
- Ensure local statutory reporting requirements across APAC markets are understood, planned for, and delivered accurately and on time
Compliance, Audit, and Governance
- Oversee statutory compliance across APAC, ensuring local filing, audit, and regulatory requirements are identified, coordinated, and fulfilled in partnership with in-country and shared service center teams
- Coordinate internal and external statutory audits across the region, ensuring audit deliverables, issue resolution, and remediation actions are completed effectively and on time
- Partner closely with Tax, Legal, and in-country finance teams to manage statutory, regulatory, and governance matters across supported countries
- Maintain oversight of financial controls, delegation of authority, and policy compliance to ensure an effective governance framework across the regional operating model
Transition and Stakeholder Management
- Support the transition of in-country finance activities into the shared service center by helping define governance requirements, control expectations, statutory needs, and stakeholder engagement plans
- Partner with country finance teams, the Head of Accounting Operations, and transformation stakeholders to ensure activities are transitioned in a controlled manner and embedded sustainably within the shared service center model
- Provide regional guidance on local requirements, risks, and dependencies to support successful migration of activities into the service center model
- Maintain strong relationships with regional leadership and in-country stakeholders to ensure alignment, issue escalation, and effective post-transition governance
Transformation and Process Excellence
- Support standardization of statutory and controllership processes across APAC by aligning local requirements with the shared service center operating model
- Provide controllership input into process migrations, system implementations, and finance transformation initiatives to ensure statutory, control, and governance requirements are embedded
- Identify control or compliance risks arising from organizational, process, or system changes and drive appropriate mitigation actions with relevant stakeholders
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen governance, transparency, and sustainable compliance across the region
Leadership and Collaboration
- Provide regional leadership and controllership guidance across APAC, influencing shared service center teams and in-country stakeholders to deliver compliant, well-governed, and sustainable outcomes
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships across Controllership, Tax, Legal, Treasury, shared services, IT, and business teams to ensure alignment and effective execution
- Operate effectively across a complex multinational environment, managing stakeholder relationships, resolving escalations, and driving accountability across countries and functions
Qualification & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA, CA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred
- Significant progressive experience in financial controllership, statutory reporting, audit, and finance leadership within a multinational environment
- Strong experience managing statutory compliance, external audits, financial reviews, and regional governance across APAC or other multi-country structures
- Experience working within a finance shared services or global business services environment, with a clear understanding of the distinction between operational delivery and controllership accountability
- Experience supporting transitions of in-country finance activities into a shared service center model, including governance, controls, and stakeholder management
- Solid knowledge of accounting standards, internal controls, statutory compliance requirements, and corporate governance, including IFRS and/or US GAAP
- Experience working within a global multinational organization, with the ability to navigate complex stakeholder and regulatory environments
- Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across functions and cultures
- Proficiency in ERP systems and Microsoft Excel; experience supporting service transitions and finance transformation initiatives is an advantage
