Description

As the Director / Senior Director of Transportation & Logistics, you will lead the development and execution of transportation and logistics strategies within the Supply Chain Management (SCM) function. You will be responsible for ensuring the efficient, cost-effective, and timely movement of goods across the supply chain, managing a team of logistics professionals. You will collaborate cross-functionally with procurement, warehousing, distribution, and other supply chain functions to drive operational excellence, mitigate risks, and achieve key business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Transportation Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement the overall transportation and logistics strategy, aligning with the broader Supply Chain and organizational goals.
  • Oversight and Management of Front-Line leads (FLL)/ Transportation General Managers & Dispatch coordinator for National Transportation business
  • Design, optimize, and continuously improve end-to-end transportation networks and last-mile delivery systems.
  • Manage transportation capacity, cost control, and service performance for logistics functions.
  • Co-ordination and collaboration with stakeholders at various regions / service lines for identify future opportunities for scope at GCC and ability to plan, coordinate, and execute process transitions.
  • Represent team for Business Governance Meetings with on-site. Deep understanding of the business to be able to address issues being raised by On-site partners. Play the role of POC at GCC.

Supply Chain Optimization

  • Collaborate with procurement, inventory management, and demand planning teams to integrate transportation and logistics with overall supply chain optimization efforts.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and supply chain risk mitigation across transportation and logistics operations.
  • Utilize advanced analytics, data, and technology to optimize transportation routes, reduce lead times, and improve service levels.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of logistics professionals, providing guidance, training, and performance management.
  • conduct periodic performance assessment and provide feedback with respect to Productivity and Quality; retention enhancement and management; career development, coaching and mentoring of associates; succession planning within the unit etc.

Technology & Process Innovation

  • Evaluate and implement transportation management systems (TMS), logistics automation, and other digital tools to streamline operations and enhance visibility.
  • Promote the use of innovative technologies, including AI, machine learning, and IoT, to enhance supply chain efficiency, transparency, and decision-making.
  • Champion process improvements, including lean and Six Sigma methodologies, to enhance operational performance.

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Develop and manage transportation budgets, track spending, and ensure adherence to financial targets.
  • Provide regular reporting and analysis to senior leadership on transportation and logistics performance, including cost metrics, KPIs, and operational challenges.
  • Drive the continuous improvement of key performance indicators (KPIs), including on-time delivery, transportation costs, and service quality.

Regulatory Compliance & Sustainability

  • Safe / Compliant driver operations within the region to support continuous driver growth and lower the company transportation expenses
  • Ensure Front Line Leads ( FLL) are compliant to – Driver communication, Hours of service, Facility/ Hub Communication, – Driver company credit card management, – TMS- Daily execution, – TMS- weekly planning, HR/Trans Compliance/ H&S, – Asset Management, – Talent Acquisition/Onboarding, – Payroll, – Training, – Conference calls, – Close completed loads, – P&L/ Cost and revenue management

Qualification & Requirements

Skills/ Expectations

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Fair Understanding of P&L statements and inclination towards optimizing financials.
  • Working knowledge of US DOT (US Department of Transport) and fleet compliance (preferred)
  • Ability to work with a variety of managers, each with different skills and personalities
  • Effective organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Ability to understand and produce reports and provide analytics.
  • Effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Ability to understand issues and resolve/address strategically.
  • Good organizational skills, decisiveness, and initiative.
  • Self-starter with ability to make sound financial and operational decisions with limited direction.

Academic / Experience / Background Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field. Master’s degree or MBA preferred.
  • Overall 18+ years’ of experience in Transportation & Logistics Management.
  • 5+ years’ experience with accountability/responsibility for financial KPI results (Required)
  • 5+ years’ experience managing a remote service workforce related to transportation/delivery services (Required)
  • Experience managing a remote service workforce related to transportation/delivery services abroad Preferably USA, Europe, etc.

Certifications (preferred But Not Required)

  • APICS CPIM (Certified in Production and Inventory Management) or CSCP (Certified Supply Chain Professional).
  • Six Sigma or Lean Certification.
  • Transportation Management Certification (e.g., from the National Private Truck Council or similar organizations).
