Description
The Director, Shared Services will be responsible for directing and developing and shared services team that will drive excellence in the Company’s Billing, Credit, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable and Travel & Expense functions.. This position serves as an important business partner to key stakeholders across our commercial and operational teams and will work closely with the Corporate Controller and other accounting department leads throughout the financial close process. The Director, Shared Services will lead and participate in improving processes and data integrity for workflows impacting financial accuracy, internal controls and Encore’s customer and field experience. This position will report directly to the VP, Corporate Controller.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership
- Responsible for the effective functioning of the Shared Services team, including cross-functional collaboration across the order-to-cash cycle and procure-to-pay cycle, including bringing new insights and ideas for process improvements.
- Building and maintaining an experienced, goal-oriented, and efficient team.
- Ensuring adherence to appropriate internal controls, accounting policies and business practices.
- Take a lead role in representing the Accounting Shared Services organization regarding key IT systems, processes and applications, assisting in the evaluation, testing and implementation of new systems, upgrades and enhancements.
- Partner with other members of finance leadership to ensure the execution of the Company’s financial and strategic goals as they relate to the Accounting Shared Services organization.
People Development
- Hire, develop, lead, and motivate a qualified team of professionals necessary to support the growth of the business and meet the needs of internal and external customers.
- Promote and drive professional development and training efforts to help improve overall business acumen, knowledge of systems and processes, and service skills of the team.
- Manage ongoing human resource related issues including selection, team member career pathing and planning, performance management, salary administration and training and development.
- Cultivate and develop a team environment that focuses on service levels, customer satisfaction, and productivity.
- Motivate the staff and measure department performance with appropriate metrics, utilizing those metrics to track employee performance.
Financial Responsibility
- Oversee month end close activities regarding billing/revenue and accounts payable/expenses, ensuring completeness of the related accounts, including reviewing, and analyzing activity of balance sheet accounts.
- Direct workflow of staff and lead efforts to improve processes impacting quality and efficiency of monthly close including the gathering and analyzing of information to prepare accurate and complete support calculations for key accruals and reserves.
- Responsible for developing the Shared Services annual budget and managing the team and its resources to budget.
- Leading the team in supporting internal and external audit requirements.
Special Projects
- Identify and lead opportunities for process and system improvements across the team.
- Partnering with senior leadership to develop and implement special projects as requested.
- Be the primary partner to the FP&A team for all month end reporting and commentary, including but not limited to Bad Debt Evaluation, Daily Aging Reports, DPO etc.
Qualification & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or comparable experience
- 8+ years of related work experience as well as a minimum of two years management experience for companies with $500 million to $3 billion in revenue
- Strong understanding of leading practices within Billing, Credit, Accounts Receivable, Collections, Accounts Payable, and Travel & Expense functions, including use of related systems
- Internal and external customer-centric mentality, with the ability to anticipate customer needs
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff effectively
- Demonstrated ability to present findings/recommendations to senior management
- Experience with participating in and assisting with external audits, including interaction with ‘Big 4’ audit firms
- Extensive experience with Oracle or similar ERP software
- Excellent interpersonal, organization and time management skills
- Strong management skills with the ability to handle multiple staff at different levels of knowledge and experience
- Demonstrated attention to detail and concern for quality
- Ability to complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner
- Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision, work well with others and promote a team environment
