Description

We’re excited to add a Director of Operations to our growing Nuclear Development team! We have a strong preference for candidates with experience from a nuclear utility, reactor vendor, nuclear project developer, or Architecture & Engineering / Construction Management (AE/CM) firms supporting commercial nuclear projects.

We’re looking for an operational leader who thrives in a fast-moving, high-accountability environment and knows how to scale the systems, governance, and operating cadence required to support major nuclear project development.

In this role, you will lead enterprise functional support areas through experienced functional managers and subject matter experts, ensuring teams are aligned, integrated, and executing consistently. You’ll bring structure and clarity across functions by translating enterprise needs into priorities, strengthening cross-functional coordination, and keeping readiness on track as Elementl grows.

Operations currently supports Document Control/Records Management and Environmental Health & Safety (EHS). Over time, you will help build and scale additional functions, including IT, Corporate Procurement, Training, and other enterprise capabilities, by supporting hiring, operating model development, and integration of new leaders and teams.

Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), you will reinforce governance and compliance, drive readiness tied to key milestones, and surface issues requiring executive attention. This is an opportunity to build durable systems, enable high-performing teams, and raise the bar for execution in a mission-driven, highly regulated environment.

Director of Operations, Nuclear Development

Key Responsibilities

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Lead the day-to-day performance of assigned enterprise support functions through functional managers and subject matter experts who report into you, ensuring strong execution, clear ownership, and consistent follow-through.
  • Partner with finance, project development, HR, regulatory, legal, and other functional leaders to ensure enterprise needs are understood and met, and cross-functional interfaces stay tight as Elementl scales.
  • Establish the operating rhythm that makes the organization work: clear priorities, effective reviews, disciplined action tracking, and timely escalation when needed.
  • Lead cross-disciplinary reviews that identify gaps, sharpen accountability, and improve how support functions serve the broader business.
  • Keep the COO closely engaged, surfacing risks early, driving decision clarity, and escalating issues with clear context and recommended paths forward.

Governance and Readiness

  • Help build the operational backbone that enables repeatable execution — policies, procedures, and governance systems that support corporate and project readiness.
  • Coordinate readiness planning and implementation tied to key corporate and project milestones, ensuring support functions stay ahead of what the business needs next.
  • Reinforce alignment with compliance, safety, and regulatory requirements while keeping processes practical and scalable in a fast-moving environment.
  • Maintain accountability for functional work groups’ adherence to approved budgets and compliance with established policies and procedural expectations.

External Partnerships

  • Enable your functional leaders to use consultants and external partners effectively, bringing in the right expertise at the right time to accelerate capability-building and execution.
  • Coordinate internal review and acceptance of consultant-produced deliverables, tools, and systems, ensuring quality, alignment, and long-term usability across the enterprise.

Organizational Development

  • Partner with HR to build onboarding and training material that helps teams ramp quickly and operate consistently within Elementl’s compliance and operational framework.
  • Reinforce a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement across the Operations organization.
  • Support the integration of new hires into Elementl’s ways of working, ensuring role clarity, ownership, and consistent operating practices.
  • Build and scale additional enterprise functions over time (e.g., IT, Corporate Procurement, Training), including hiring and onboarding functional leaders and teams who will report into this role, and integrating them into the Operations organization.

Performance Tracking and Reporting

  • Build and maintain dashboards and trackers that give visibility into functional performance, readiness progress, and key initiatives.
  • Identify operational risks, resource gaps, and bottlenecks early; recommend mitigation actions that keep execution on track.
  • Provide clear, executive-ready updates to the COO and leadership team, focused on progress, decisions needed, and risks to address.

Qualification & Requirements

Experiences You’ll Bring!

You have 10–12+ years of progressive operations or enterprise support leadership experience, including 5+ years leading managers and driving execution through teams. You’ve built or scaled shared services and enterprise support functions in a highly regulated environment. You know how to bring structure, governance, and operational discipline to organizations navigating complex milestones and compliance requirements.

The ideal candidate brings direct experience in the commercial nuclear industry. This could include experience from a nuclear utility, reactor vendor, nuclear project developer, or Architecture & Engineering / Construction Management (AE/CM) firm supporting commercial nuclear (e.g., consulting, engineering services, supply chain). You’ve also managed at least one of the enterprise support functional areas relevant to this role (e.g., Document Control, EHS, Quality, Compliance, Procurement, Training, or IT). Nuclear is unique in its requirements and expectations, and experience operating in this environment will set you apart.

You are a great fit for this role if you:

  • Have led enterprise operations, governance, readiness, or shared services functions in a highly regulated industry and can build systems that scale as the organization grows.
  • Have experience leading and developing managers, driving execution through others, and creating operating cadence, accountability, and follow-through.
  • Have overseen or scaled multiple enterprise support functions (e.g., Document Control / Records Management, EHS, IT, Procurement, Training, Quality, Compliance, or similar).
  • Are comfortable operating in environments where compliance, safety, and procedural rigor matter and can keep processes practical, efficient, and effective.
  • Know how to coordinate effectively across leaders in finance, HR, legal, regulatory, and project development, ensuring priorities stay aligned and interdependencies don’t become blockers.
  • Have strong experience managing consultants, external partners, and vendors and know how to evaluate deliverables, implement systems/tools, and ensure adoption.
  • Are proactive and executive-ready: you surface risks early, frame tradeoffs clearly, and communicate with clarity and confidence to senior leadership.
  • Are data-driven and operationally rigorous, able to use dashboards, trackers, and performance routines to make progress and risks visible.

If you’re a strategic, hands-on operations leader who thrives in high-growth environments and is energized by building the enterprise backbone required to deliver next-generation nuclear projects, we’d love to hear from you.
