Description

South Dakota State University is excited to introduce a new opportunity for a Director of Financial Shared Services for the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management. Reporting to the Finance and Budget office, this position will play a key role in leading a team that supports the financial operations of the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management, including budgeting, fiscal planning, auxiliary system management, and post-award support. As the first role of its kind within the division, the Director will have the chance to help shape and guide the shared services model while working closely with the HR Shared Service Center to ensure smooth and effective service delivery. This position is located in Brookings, South Dakota and is a 12-month, full-time, benefits-eligible position.

The Division of Finance and Budget provides ethical, transparent & innovative services necessary to support Teaching, Learning, Outreach and Research activities. Director of Financial Shared Services for the Division of Student Affairs & Enrollment Management

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the delivery of services for the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management Shared Service Center, ensuring alignment with department goals and customer needs.
  • Supervise and evaluate staff, providing training and ensuring compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with leadership to optimize service delivery, making adjustments to meet fiscal needs and priorities.
  • Develop and manage division and department budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility and identifying opportunities for budget efficiencies.
  • Lead special projects and provide financial analysis to support decision-making and long-term planning.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Finance and Budget Division and Student Affairs and Enrollment Management.
  • Monitor and manage budgets and expenditures for facility projects, ensuring alignment with university policies.
  • Foster a customer service-oriented culture, build strong relationships with stakeholders and address challenges.

Qualification & Requirements

Minimum

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Economics or closely related field completed by date of application; An alternative undergraduate degree may be acceptable if the candidate has a master’s in Business;
  • At least three years of experience in business, accounting, finance, and/or higher education leadership;
  • Must be self-directed, team-oriented, and customer focused;
  • Demonstrated excellent leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven ability to manage finances including revenue projections, budget allocations; and
  • Proven skills in financial data analysis and report development.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in Business, Economics, or Educational Administration with emphasis in Fiscal Management;
  • Experience leading a team and supervising personnel; and
  • Experience with fund accounting or governmental accounting
