Description

The Director of Corporate Accounting provides strategic leadership and oversight for accounting functions related to the front-end, warehouse, corporate expenses, and fixed assets. This role is directly responsible for maintaining effective controls for both external and internal financial reporting, ensuring compliance with GAAP, and safeguarding the integrity of the organization’s financial data. The Director will drive process improvements, foster cross-functional collaboration, and mentor a high-performing team, while balancing strategic priorities with day-to-day operational excellence.

This is an on-site role located in Buffalo or Schenectady, NY.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and direct all activities within front-end, warehouse, corporate expense, and fixed assets accounting areas.
  • Develop, mentor, and supervise staff, providing continuous feedback and professional development opportunities.
  • Oversee the period close process for corporate expense areas, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial reports.
  • Manage the preparation of period-end balance sheet reconciliations and perform ad hoc financial analysis as needed.
  • Provide substantive fluctuation analyses for balance sheet and P&L accounts to support quarterly and annual reporting.
  • Coordinate the accumulation and submission of information for quarterly reviews and the annual audit, as well as bank audits and appraisals.
  • Prepare and distribute corporate expense reports, including variance analyses against budgets and forecasts.
  • Recommend accounting policies and ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
  • Develop and implement changes to internal controls as necessary.
  • Lead or support special projects related to accounting, financial, or operational systems, leveraging IT systems expertise to work effectively with business users.
  • Collaborate with internal and external business partners to address issues and facilitate daily operations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and adhere to all company policies and procedures.

Qualification & Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Consistently strong performance reviews.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability with a record of achieving results through others.
  • Proficient in PC applications and accounting operating systems.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • CPA designation desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience with ERP systems and advanced proficiency in Excel.
