Description

The School District of North Fond du Lac (NFDL) is seeking an experienced, forward-thinking, and collaborative leader to serve as the Director of Business Services. This position plays a critical role in overseeing the district’s financial operations, ensuring efficient management of resources, and upholding the financial health of the district. The Director of Business Services will work closely with the Superintendent, leadership team, and other stakeholders to maintain a strong fiscal foundation while supporting the district’s mission of educational excellence.

Director of Business Services

Key Responsibilities

Fiscal Leadership and Oversight

  • Lead and manage the district’s financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting.
  • Develop and manage annual operating budgets, ensuring alignment with the district’s strategic priorities.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations related to financial practices, including audits and financial reports.
  • Oversee the management of grants, state funding, and other financial resources, ensuring equitable allocation across the district.
  • Oversee the district’s Food Service Program

Resource Management

  • Monitor and manage district expenditures, ensuring fiscal responsibility and sustainability in line with district goals.
  • Work with building and department leaders to ensure efficient use of resources, advocating for decisions that prioritize student outcomes.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team to identify funding needs and strategies for long-term financial planning.

Policy and Procedure Development

  • Establish, implement, and update financial policies and procedures that ensure transparency, accountability, and alignment with district goals.
  • Provide guidance on procurement processes, contracts, and vendor management to support district operations.

Strategic Planning and Partnership

  • Work with the Superintendent and leadership team to develop financial plans that support district priorities and foster growth.
  • Provide regular updates to the Board of Education and other stakeholders on the district’s financial health, risks, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with community members, staff, and stakeholders to ensure financial decisions reflect the needs and values of the district.

Leadership and Team Development

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with district employees, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Lead the business services team by providing mentorship, professional development, and a commitment to continuous growth.
  • Encourage cross-departmental collaboration and support in achieving shared goals, modeling We Are One through unity and teamwork.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  • License: School Business Administrator License (5008)
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a financial leadership role, preferably within a school district or similar public-sector organization. Experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and business operations is required.
  • Skills:
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information in an understandable way.
  • Ability to build relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, fostering trust and collaboration.
  • Knowledge of school finance, funding structures, and relevant laws/regulations.
  • Proficiency in financial management software and systems, preferably Skyward.
