Description

Corporate & Delivery is responsible for ensuring that operational and policy teams in the Home Office have the support they need to achieve the Department’s priorities. The work is captured in a wide portfolio of enabling functions including human resources, estates, finance, investment management, performance management, governance and assurance, commercial, science and innovation and security.

The finance function comprises two Director roles with a Strategic and Operational focus. The Strategic Finance Directorate focuses on future financial planning, risk and business partnering. The Operational Finance Director is focused on accounts production, system and management accounting, transactions and the in-year financial reporting, and finance responsibilities for the Synergy Shared Services program.

Key Responsibilities

As the Finance Director – Operations you will report to the DG, Corporate & Delivery and will provide strong leadership for financial management and control for the Home Office, with a relentless focus on maximizing the efficiency of the Department’s delivery.

Essential Criteria

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate their knowledge, experience, capability and behavioral approach to a high standard against the following key criteria:

  • Leadership – Substantial experience of leading, motivating and developing a diverse team of finance professionals and of developing a spirit of teamwork across functional and organisational boundaries to deliver an effective and efficient service, with specific experience of driving and improving performance.
  • Strategic influence – Experience of influencing management at a senior level with strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex positions clearly and compellingly.
  • Track record of working in a senior team – A successful track record of working as part of a senior management team, with direct and considerable experience of effective business planning, analysis, budget management and performance appraisal.

Desirable Criteria

  • CCAB, CIMA or equivalent qualified accountant with a substantial track record of success in a senior finance leadership role in a fast-moving finance area in a highly complex, customer focused organization. This should include a highly effective track record of interpreting financial information to help shape and influence organizational strategy.
  • Substantial experience of leading, motivating and developing a diverse team of finance professionals and of developing a spirit of teamwork across functional and organizational boundaries to deliver an effective and efficient service, with specific experience of driving and improving performance.
  • A broad corporate outlook and enthusiasm for transformation coupled with a proven track record in driving forward efficiency savings across a large organization, in line with key strategic objectives.
  • A successful track record of working as part of a senior management team, with direct and considerable experience of effective business planning, analysis, budget management and performance appraisal.
  • Experience of working with a wide range of stakeholders within a highly complex and politically sensitive environment both internally and externally in different ways and different styles.
  • Experience of influencing management at a senior level with strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate complex positions clearly and compellingly.
  • Ability to operate effectively in an environment of complexity and ambiguity.
