As the Director of Communication, you will play a vital role in supporting strategic communication needs at the ministry, service area, or divisional level. You will be a key strategic partner to the executive and senior leadership, overseeing communication efforts to deliver consistent, clear messaging to all caregivers and external stakeholders. By working closely with the Chief Communication Officer, you will align communication programs and messaging, ensuring they are effectively delivered to both internal and external audiences in collaboration with the executive Communication leadership team.

This communication role oversees communications for the Providence Clinical Network (PCN) in our central geographies including eastern Washington and Oregon markets, reporting to the associate vice president and chief communication officer for the PCN.

Key Responsibilities

  • Communication Strategist: Independently write, create, and implement high-quality communication plans, messaging, and copy that meet Providence standards, directing the strategy, planning, and execution for all major internal and external strategic communication initiatives.
  • Advisor to Leadership: Provide ongoing strategic communication counsel and support to leadership teams and individuals, reinforcing, enhancing, and growing the organizational voice and narrative of Providence through proactive communication.
  • Collaborative Innovator: Collaborate closely with communication leadership and teams to ensure consistent, aligned communication strategies and implementation across all operations, reflecting our Catholic identity and aligning with our Mission, Vision, and Values.
  • Message Manager: Align organizational and ministry/divisional messaging and communication programs, effectively managing the delivery of information and messaging to caregivers and other audiences and coordinating messaging across audiences in partnership with communication leadership at the system and division level.
  • Financial Acumen: Manage budget goals effectively, providing ongoing strategic communication counsel and support.
  • Team Builder: Foster high-performing, engaged teams and caregivers through servant leadership and mentoring, creating a culture of collaboration and growth.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, Business Administration, or a related field, with a Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Extensive Experience: 10 or more years of communication experience in healthcare, with deep knowledge of integrated healthcare and communication practices.
  • Collaborative Skills: Ability to work collaboratively across a diverse communication team, ensuring rapid, consistent, and impactful delivery of messaging across multiple channels and locations.
  • Brand Proponent: Capability to drive proactive, powerful messaging to support and enhance our brand position.
  • Project Management: Demonstrated planning and project management skills, strong attention to detail, and outstanding analytical abilities.
  • Adaptive Leader: Demonstrated ability to study, understand, adapt, and respond effectively to a constantly changing environment, actively seeking feedback and remaining open and receptive.
  • Relationship Management: Effectively manage stakeholder relationships at multiple levels of the organization, building high-quality teams and fostering positive interactions with colleagues, customers, and executive management.
  • Performance Driven: Set challenging objectives, continuously seeking to improve personal performance against self-defined standards of excellence.
