Description
Leads, oversees, and provides strategic direction for all Business Banking Operations (BBO) teams in the GBS campuses, ensuring business strategies, activities and initiatives are implemented / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies, and procedures.
Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:30am – 5:30pm / Saturdays 4 hours upon request
Key Responsibilities
- Leads and drives a customer focused culture throughout their team to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems, and knowledge.
- Provides representation for the BBO team as a member of the GBS-DR Campus Leadership team.
- Designs, develops and enhances BBO Operations functions to increase execution effectiveness, while taking a global and end-to-end perspective. Identifies opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and takes a lead role in change management initiatives.
- Supports various workstreams with operational remediation and business as usual requirements, ensuring that volumes are managed with agreed timelines, that stakeholders and partners are notified appropriately of any delays and managing relationships with internal business partners to deliver a superior customer experience.
- Working with Canadian based leadership responsible for the quality and efficiency of unit operations and processing by:
- Oversight on all required management reviews, tracking results and effectively resolving issues
- Leading the day to day oversight of workloads, staffing & unexpected issues to ensure stability of processing
- Proactively managing workloads and staffing levels by planning, coordinating, assigning and monitoring
- Review of daily and periodic management controls
- Designing and implementing corrective measures to prevent recurrence of errors/problem situations
- Communicating policy, program and process changes and ensuring successful implementation
- Establishing benchmarks and leading the analysis of appropriate tracking and trending to monitor accuracy, timeliness, compliance, efficiency (and improvement if required)
- Developing and implementing changes to the operating procedures, processes and systems to increase efficiency and meet Bank requirements.
- Oversight of testing to ensure compliance to changes implemented and preventing “process creep”.
- Reporting immediately any unusual occurrences or irregular or fraudulent activity, deficiencies, and trends to senior management or other business partners as appropriate for resolution.
- Reviewing general correspondence, returns and reports to ensure accuracy.
- Understands and directs day-to-day activities in a manner consistent with the Bank’s risk culture and the relevant risk appetite statement and limits. Communicates the Bank’s risk culture and risk appetite statement throughout their teams.
- Holds direct reports and team accountable for meeting and maintaining expected targets/standards as described in their job descriptions, annual performance plan, operational performance commitments, and enterprise/BBO Operations policies & procedures.
- Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Qualification & Requirements
- Strong analytical, problem solving and critical thinking skills with solid organization and time management skills. Problem solving skills to address complex operational issues on an end-to-end and global basis.
- Ability to build strong cross-functional business relationships, as well as implement continuous improvement initiatives to drive operational efficiency.
- Proven ability to motivate, influence and utilize diplomacy and tact, to deal with all levels of contact.
- Self-reliant and proactive approach to work.
- Strong people leadership skills with a proven ability to coach, delegate and foster a team environment.
- 10+ years of experience in the financial services industry, managing large, complex, and multi-jurisdiction operation units that have regulatory and efficiency components.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to manage conflict and negotiations
- English/Spanish fluency is required.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and proven ability to create and facilitate presentations to various groups.
- Proven ability to balance competing goals across various departments, utilizing strong negotiation and influencing skills to maintain support and prioritize effectively, while being aware of the impact on business outcomes.
