Description

The Director of Accounts Payable will oversee all aspects of the accounts payable function, ensuring timely and accurate payment processing, expense management, and adherence to internal controls and policies. This role is critical in managing vendor relationships, optimizing payment terms, and leading a high-performance team. The Director will collaborate closely with finance, procurement, and operational teams to streamline processes and support financial reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and lead a team of accounts payable professionals, providing mentorship, training, and development to ensure the team operates effectively.
  • Develop and implement best practices in the accounts payable function, focusing on continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Identify and implement automation opportunities, technology solutions, and process improvements to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in AP operations.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including procurement and finance, to standardize AP processes and improve integration across systems.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end AP close process, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting of accounts payable transactions.
  • Ensure all invoices and expenses are processed in compliance with company policies, GAAP, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the annual audit process by providing requested documentation and analysis.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and internal stakeholders, negotiating favorable terms and managing vendor disputes.
  • Lead initiatives to optimize payment terms, reduce payment cycle time, and ensure cash flow management aligns with company objectives.
  • Develop and enforce accounts payable policies and procedures to strengthen internal controls, reduce risk, and maintain compliance.
  • Regularly review AP processes to ensure compliance with PE-backed company requirements and financial regulations.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in accounts payable, with at least 5 years in a managerial role, ideally within a private equity-backed or shared service organization.
  • Proven experience leading a high-performing AP team, with a track record of implementing process improvements and automation.
  • Strong knowledge of accounts payable practices, GAAP, and financial reporting standards.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems (such as SAP, Oracle, or NetSuite) and AP automation tools.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
