Description
The COS will represent the CEO and COO where appropriate and relevant on matters of internal business and performance, to enable their capacity and thereby ensure they are able to focus on the overarching delivery of the DBS Strategy, Corporate and Annual Delivery Plans and the continued fostering of key stakeholder relationships.
Key Responsibilities
- Overseeing CEO and COO’s priorities; working with stakeholders to find and deliver solutions and ensuring they align with wider MOD objectives, reviewing and providing assurance to CEO/COO and other key stakeholders (including the MOD Sponsor).
- Direct Line Management for the Outer Office to commission priorities across the business area ensuring quality standards and deadlines are met, leveraging the senior team and others as necessary. Recognising the sensitivities and reputational impact of your role.
- Following up on areas of particular concern to the CEO and COO to positively trouble-shoot and/or address issues in a timely and effective manner.
- Representing CEO and COO where appropriate and relevant, and primarily on matters of internal business, to enable CEO and COO’s capacity, cover absence and mitigate commitment conflict.
- Providing direction, coherence and integration across the Executive Team to optimise impact and delivery, including driving team development opportunities on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer.
- Being a trusted, professional advisor to the business area on a wide range of, often complex and sensitive, Departmental subjects. Use initiative to proactively identify emerging risks and issues, responding or direct queries to relevant parties and demonstrate excellent judgement to escalate as required.
- Ensuring the CEO and COO are aware of issues and feelings on the ‘floorplate’ andthat engagement and communication with staff is matched appropriately
Qualification & Requirements
- Have experience working with senior stakeholders, demonstrating an ability to build trust develop strong relationships at all levels, provding constructive challenge at all levels.
- Have previous experience working in a large, complex organisation, working across different teams and departments to align teams and drive operational delivery.
- Have experience leading or supporting strategic initiatives, with an ability to translate high-level goals into actionable plans.
- Be comfortable working with ambiguity, thinking innovatively to offer data informed solutions, and support implementation – demonstrating good judgement in balancing competing priorities.
- Be skilled at managing multiple, complex initiatives simultaneously.
- An ability to interpret and communicate complex issues to wider audiences succinctly and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
- Have strong organisational, written and planning skills, with good attention to detail. Self-starter who can work effectively and professionally with minimal supervision in a highly pressured environment.
- Have a high level of personal resilience with the ability to work under pressure, adapt quickly to new demands and work flexibly to manage changing and conflicting priorities at pace while maintaining quality outcomes and having the intellectual curiosity to understand the impact your role and decisions have on the bigger organisational picture.
- There will be a requirement in this role to travel to other UK sites as the business requires.
