Description
The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a strategic, future-focused senior executive responsible for aligning vision with execution across a mission-driven organization.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy
- Translate the organization’s strategic vision into actionable plans.
- Develop and implement operational strategies aligned with organizational goals.
- Lead cross-functional teams, task forces, and consultants to advance key initiatives.
- Build adaptive strategies to enable rapid and effective responses to emerging challenges.
- Maintain focus on long-term objectives while integrating relevant foresight into current operations.
Leadership
- Unify and align the leadership team around core organizational priorities.
- Promote cross-departmental collaboration and bridge organizational silos.
- Establish processes to identify and respond to disruptive trends and opportunities.
- Prepare teams to confidently navigate complexity, uncertainty, and rapid change.
Operations
- Align business and mission functions to support vision and strategy.
- Anticipate emerging technologies and apply them to improve operational effectiveness.
- Drive continuous improvement in enterprise systems and processes to ensure scalability.
- Ensure comprehensive business continuity procedures across a distributed operational footprint.
Missional Growth
- Optimize allocation of financial, human, and technology resources to support strategic initiatives, including programmatic and institutional growth.

Qualification & Requirements
- Proven experience in a senior executive leadership role with integrative responsibilities.
- Strong strategic planning, execution, and performance management skills.
- Familiarity with EOS (Entrepreneurial Operating System) or comparable frameworks.
- Experience using data analytics and business intelligence for informed decision-making.
- Demonstrated success managing complex, cross-functional projects on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and change management abilities.
- Adaptive and calm leadership under pressure; experienced in leading through uncertainty.
- Understanding of the BANI framework (Brittle, Anxious, Nonlinear, Incomprehensible) as a tool for navigating volatility and complexity.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with operational execution.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting, or a related field required; graduate degree preferred.
