Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Accountabilities
The Finance Center Head (Philippines, India) will lead the greenfield setup and early operations of Sun Life’s finance center—defining the local operating model, governance, and initial process portfolio; building a migration roadmap with global/regional partners; and establishing metrics, controls, and service management routines (e.g., SLAs and performance reviews) from day one.
Working under the Global Finance Delivery Leader, this role converts global priorities and stakeholder requirements into clear operational targets, stable delivery, and measurable outcomes for internal clients.
Key Accountabilities
- Operational ownership – 50%
- Lead day-to-day finance delivery in the Philippines center, including end-to-end controllership activities within a shared services model.
- Transformation Management – 15%
- Standardize and optimize processes, drive automation (e.g., RPA/AI where applicable), and lead local delivery of global finance transformations using data-driven performance management.
- Service management – 10%
- Support the Global Finance Delivery Leader in partnering with global process owners and regional leaders to define scope, manage SLAs, run service reviews, and resolve issues—acting as the local representative for global finance leadership within Sun Life Global Solutions.
- People Leadership – 15%
- Build a high-performing culture and leadership pipeline—recruit and develop talent, lead knowledge transfer, and drive performance management to improve quality, speed, cost, and controls.
- Controls & Compliance – 10%
- Establish governance, internal controls, risk management, and audit readiness; ensure adherence to accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and data security expectations.
Qualification & Requirements
Qualifications & Profile
The ideal candidate is a senior finance leader with strong controllership fundamentals, shared services expertise, and a track record of building teams and driving transformation.
- Education & credentials: Bachelor’s degree in finance/accounting (advanced degree preferred); CPA or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Finance operations leadership: 10–15+ years in finance, including controllership/financial operations (close, reporting, AP/AR, treasury, audit support) in a multinational environment; financial services/insurance experience preferred.
- Shared services / GCC: 10+ years leading shared services/BPO teams across multiple processes; experience in greenfield setup or major expansion strongly preferred.
- People leadership & communication: Proven leader of large teams (50–100+), strong coaching capability, and ability to engage senior stakeholders across geographies; fluent English required.
- Strategic & analytical: Connect operational metrics to business outcomes, plan capacity/capability growth, and use data to identify trends and drive corrective actions.
- Change leadership: Effective in matrix environments; able to influence, manage change, and sustain adoption of new processes, controls, and systems.
Preferred Experience and Traits
- Domain knowledge: Insurance/financial services finance experience (e.g., reserves/claims, regulatory reporting) is an asset.
- Stakeholder management: Comfortable managing expectations across multiple regions/business units; proactive communication and issue resolution.
- Process excellence: Lean Six Sigma and/or project management credentials (e.g., PMP) are beneficial for transitions, standardization, and automation initiatives.
- Adaptability: Resilient, culturally aware leader; Asia-Pacific/Philippines /India experience is a plus.
