Description
Alvarez & Marsal’s Energy team works with global companies across Oil & Gas, Renewables, Mining, Power & Utilities and Chemical sub-sectors to provide independent analysis and end-to-end support across business transformation programs. Pulling from Alvarez & Marsal’s restructuring heritage, A&M’s Energy Group combines the best of A&M’s bias toward action and practicality with deep industry experience as both consultants and operators. Our Business Transformation practice is rapidly expanding in the GCC, and we are looking for a Director to join our Gurgaon/Bangalore team. This role offers the opportunity to leverage your business insight, analytical skills, and problem-solving abilities as part of a hands-on, high-impact team. You will work on projects across A&M’s global offices, covering the full project lifecycle, including market analysis, growth strategy development, operational improvement, and financial performance enhancement, to deliver measurable results for our clients.
Key Responsibilities
Client Engagement & Account Management
- Lead and oversee client engagements across Energy sub-sectors, serving as the primary engagement leader and trusted advisor to C-suite and senior stakeholders
- Build, maintain, and expand trusted relationships with senior client stakeholders and key decision-makers in the Energy industry
- Drive account planning, repeat engagements, and long-term client development strategies
- Represent A&M in industry forums, conferences, and business development activities to enhance the firm’s profile in the Energy sector
- Work closely with Managing Directors and Partners in a collaborative team model, coordinating regional and global network teams on cross-border engagements
Project Execution & Delivery
- Lead the design and execution of large-scale business transformation initiatives, providing hands-on learning opportunities while leveraging deep expertise to address complex, operations-focused challenges across projects focused on O&G, Chemicals, and Power & Utilities
- Structure complex client problems and translate them into executable workplans, oversee operational, commercial, and financial workstreams to ensure integrated solutions
- Review and develop high-quality, client-ready deliverables, ensuring insights are practical, implementable, and aligned with client objectives, timelines, and budgets,
- Apply robust project governance, risk management, and quality assurance practices
People Leadership & Capability Development
- Apply deep Energy sector knowledge to develop hypothesis-driven, data-intensive analyses addressing complex operational and strategic challenges
- Lead, mentor, and coach engagement teams across multiple projects including guiding teams in leveraging advanced analytical tools (Excel, PowerPoint, Tableau/Power BI, Alteryx/Python) to deliver high-impact insights
- Manage resource allocation, performance feedback, and team development including setting up procedures to monitor work progress, quality, and cost against budget, while consulting widely on engagements and other matters
- Support recruitment, training, and knowledge development initiatives
Firm and Practice Growth
- Actively contribute to the growth of the A&M GCC and the Energy practice by developing, pursuing, and executing initiatives that expand the Firm’s market presence, strengthen client relationships, and generate new revenue opportunities
- Lead or support proposals, RFP responses, and client pitches
- Contribute to development of new offerings, methodologies, and thought leadership

Qualification & Requirements
- 14+ years of experience in top-tier consulting/ advisory firms or relevant industry roles (strategy, restructuring, performance improvement, analytics, or operational consulting)
- Deep expertise in at least one Energy sub-sector (O&G Upstream/Downstream, Chemicals, Mining, or Power & Utilities), with the ability to rapidly apply insights across adjacent sub-sectors
- Demonstrated leadership in managing engagements end-to-end, including scoping, workplan design, team management, and client communication
- Advanced hypothesis-driven problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to frame ambiguous client issues, translate them into structured analyses, and drive clear executive-level outcomes.
- Strong financial and operational modelling expertise, supporting business cases and executive decision-making
- Exceptional executive communication and presence, including facilitation of senior-level discussions, negotiation of scope and recommendations, and development of high-impact, client-ready presentation
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple engagements concurrently, prioritize effectively, and deliver under tight deadlines and evolving client expectations
- High standards of professional integrity, judgment, and discretion, with the confidence to challenge clients constructively and communicate difficult messages clearly
