Description

The Managing Director, Head of India Complex Operations is a senior leadership role within Custody and Shared Services, part of Global Delivery. This position is responsible for the strategic direction, operational management, and end-to-end delivery of Complex Operations in India, including Derivatives, Loan Operations, Collateral processing and ETF services, ensuring exceptional client outcomes and adherence to State Street standards.

As such, we are looking for an experienced financial services leader with deep functional expertise in Custody operations, particularly in Derivatives, Loan Operations, and ETFs, with a proven ability to drive service excellence, transformation, and a strong risk and control environment.

The Managing Director, Head of India Complex Operations plays a critical role in supporting State Street’s global custody and asset servicing strategy by ensuring the effective, consistent, and scalable delivery of Complex Operations from India. The role is central to driving high-quality client service outcomes, strengthening the operating model, improving efficiency in line with global bank strategy, and embedding strong risk and control discipline across Complex Operations. The position is also key to advancing transformation and simplification objectives while building a high-performing and engaged workforce aligned to the One State Street culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive a culture of Ownership, Accountability, and One State Street across Complex Operations teams.
  • Own the India operating model and deliverables, in close partnership with the SVP – Head of Custody Services and Complex Operations and global functional leaders.
  • Implement the operating model by making regional teams accountable for outcomes and risk ownership, while improving efficiency in line with the global bank strategy.
  • Impart best practices across Client Experience, Operational Excellence, Risk & Controls, and Employee Engagement.
  • Partner with Global Delivery simplification initiatives to drive transformation objectives across Complex Operations.
  • Improve client service delivery by addressing aged reconciliation and enquiry items and ensuring timely responsiveness and closure of internal and external inquiries.
  • Reduce operating costs and operating losses across processes in line with agreed OKRs.
  • Identify and understand root causes of issues and facilitate corrective action plans to enhance overall client experience.
  • Strengthen and safeguard the end-to-end risk and control environment across Complex Operations, ensuring timely escalation of risks and issues where required.
  • Evolve the people strategy by fostering a safe environment for organic and diverse talent growth.
  • Effectively manage staff across direct and virtual teams by creating opportunities for emerging talent through stretch assignments, proactive succession planning, and development initiatives.

  • Deep functional understanding of Derivatives, ETFs, and Bank Loans within custody or asset servicing environments.
  • Proven enterprise leadership experience managing client service delivery and supporting business growth.
  • Experience interfacing at senior levels with clients, service providers, and regulators.
  • Strong focus on talent management, technology optimization, and operational risk.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to manage complexity, change, and multiple priorities effectively.
