Description

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced leader to build out our newly established Risk Business Unit within MUFG Global Service (MGS), our Global Capability Center (GCC).

This senior leadership role provides a platform to build and lead a high performing team to manage the transition and ongoing delivery of Risk (2nd Line of Defence) functions across the Americas, EMEA and APAC covering both Financial and Non-Financial Risk including Credit, Market, Operational and Enterprise Risk.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute the strategic vision for the Risk Business Unit, aligned with the company’s overall goals and objectives and, as a senior leader, contribute to the ongoing build out of MGS capabilities.
  • Service Delivery: Manage the transition and ongoing delivery of services (including management of vendor resources) from MGS for Risk stakeholders across MUFG, to agreed service standards.
  • Operational Management: Implement best practices and operational frameworks to optimise efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Talent Development: Attract, develop, and retain a high-performing team, providing mentorship, guidance, and development opportunities to ensure the team’s growth and engagement.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Build strong partnerships with key stakeholders across geographies to understand business needs and deliver effective business outcomes.
  • Process Optimisation / Innovation: Drive initiatives to streamline processes, automate workflows, and enhance service delivery through innovation and technology.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure the Risk Business Unit operates within control and regulatory frameworks and adheres to local and global risk and compliance standards.

Qualification & Requirements

Skills & Knowledge (e.g., Capability, Traits required for the role)

  • At least 15 years of relevant Risk management experience, of which at least 5 years in a leadership / team management role.
  • Experience of leading a Risk business unit in a banking GCC set up, including build out of teams, management of service transitions, and ongoing delivery of services (including management of vendor resources) within a regulated environment.
  • The role requires a strong background in risk management practices, especially non-financial risk, including issues management, QA of RCSA testing, information risk check and challenge, risk reporting, etc.
  • Exposure to multiple regions – Americas and EMEA / APAC.
  • Experience/Exposure to specific global regulations / guidelines, e.g. Basel, IFRS, etc.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with experience of managing stakeholder relationships across multiple geographies.
  • Strategic thinker with a track record of driving results and achieving operational excellence through process optimization and digital transformation.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills, track record of working closely with stakeholders, building trust, and adding value and finding solutions to risk issues.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to build, inspire and motivate teams.

Education & Professional Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Finance, Risk Management or Business Administration
  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or FRM (GARP) is highly desirable.

Length & Type of Experience

  • Minimum of 15 years of relevant risk management experience in Corporate & Investment Banking / Consulting.
