Description

The Senior Director of Operations will oversee all shared services across the network to ensure the seamless functioning of key operational systems that enable our schools to thrive. This leader will manage and align vendors, contractors, and staff supporting the following functions – IT, facilities, security, school wellness, and food and nutrition to deliver high-quality, efficient, and mission-aligned services to each school site. They will play a supportive role to the finance function and provide additional support to the Chief People and Operations Officer and school-based personnel as necessary to ensure operational excellence across the organization.

Note: this role does not directly manage day-to-day school operations (e.g., front office, scheduling, or on-site logistics), but instead ensures that the central operations infrastructure is strong, scalable, compliant, and responsive to school needs.

Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and continuous improvement across all support functions.
  • Leverage data and performance metrics to inform decisions, evaluate outcomes, and drive continuous improvement across all operational areas.

Functional Oversight

  • Finance: Collaborate with the Chief People and Operations Officer to oversee and support the work of the external finance vendor, ensuring accurate budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and audits. Coordinate effectively between internal stakeholders and external partners to maintain transparency, accountability, and sound financial management practices.
  • Information Technology: Ensure reliable, secure, and scalable systems that support both instructional and operational needs across all sites. Oversee and support technology vendors and/or contractors to ensure effective implementation, timely issue resolution, and alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Facilities & Security: Supervise facility maintenance, capital projects, safety protocols, and vendor and contractor relationships to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant learning environments. Monitor performance and service quality to ensure strong partnership and cost-effectiveness.
  • School Wellness & Nursing: Ensure compliance with health regulations and the effective coordination of school health services that support student well-being.
  • School Food & Nutrition: Oversee high-quality, compliant meal services that meet federal and state requirements and promote student health.
  • Operational Excellence: Identify opportunities to streamline systems, implement best practices, and leverage technology for efficiency and data-driven decision-making.

Team & Stakeholder Management

  • Manage a small, high-performing internal team while fostering strong collaboration and shared accountability across departments.
  • Lead and oversee relationships with key vendors, contractors, and service providers, ensuring high-quality performance, responsiveness, and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Partner closely with school leaders and central office staff to ensure shared services are efficient, customer-focused, and meet school needs.
  • Establish clear communication channels and feedback loops between internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure coordination, transparency, and continuous improvement.
  • Model collaborative leadership, professional integrity, and a commitment to operational excellence in all interactions.
