Description
The Vice President (VP) of Accounting Shared Services will lead and oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting shared services operations. This strategic leadership role is responsible for driving efficiency, standardization, and continuous improvement across accounting processes, ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), and supporting the broader finance organization with high-quality, timely, and scalable accounting solutions.
This role requires a strong leader who can combine operational excellence, automation, and strong governance to ensure compliance and accuracy while enabling business growth for PFG.
Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer, the VP will manage a large, geographically dispersed team and leverage technology, automation, and best practices to optimize performance while fostering a culture of accountability and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the vision and strategy for the accounting shared services organization aligned with the company’s overall financial goals and corporate objectives.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee large-scale daily operations of the shared services diverse teams including order to cash, general ledger, fixed assets, inventory accounting, intercompany accounting, payroll accounting, and financial reporting support as well as support of the Foodservice, Vistar, Manufacturing and Convenience segments.
Process Optimization
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives, standardization, and automation of accounting processes using Lean, Six Sigma, ERP systems, and emerging technologies like RPA and AI.
Compliance and Controls
- Ensure adherence to SOX controls, GAAP and other regulatory and internal compliance standards. Partner with internal audit, external auditors, and regulatory bodies.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a geographically diverse team of accounting professionals. Foster a high-performance culture that emphasizes accountability, professional growth, and collaboration.
Stakeholder Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with Finance, Tax, Treasury, Legal, IT, and business units to ensure alignment of accounting services with business needs.
Technology Enablement
- Partner with IT and Finance Transformation teams to implement ERP enhancements, shared services platforms, and financial reporting tools.
Budget & Vendor Management
- Manage department budgets, vendor relationships (outsourcing, consultants, service providers), and performance metrics.
Qualification & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- CPA or equivalent professional certification
- Minimum 12-15 years of progressive accounting experience including at least 5 years in a senior leadership role managing shared services or large accounting teams in a complex, multi-national environment.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP, SOX compliance, and public company financial reporting.
- Demonstrated success in leading accounting operations, process standardization, and technology-driven transformation.
- Experience managing large teams (100+ FTEs) across multiple locations and time zones.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to influence at all organizational levels.
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficient with ERP systems, shared services platforms, and automation tools and with S4 in particular.
