Description
The Business Manager, Operations & Transformation (BMOT), provides support for key strategic and operational initiatives within Business Services that also may impact the UUA. This work often involves strategic shifts in business models, culture, processes, or technologies. They align company or division goals with transformative change and manage projects to ensure successful implementation. The role requires a blend of strategic planning, project management, change management, operational expertise, financial oversight, and supportive leadership to guide/assist the business units within Business Services through complex organizational changes.
Key Responsibilities
- Document and agree on the scope and business objectives for complex, cross-functional initiatives, ensuring clarity and alignment across teams.
- Identify and organize the appropriate cross-functional teams to achieve initiative goals, ensuring all necessary work stream owners and dependencies are clearly identified. Collaborate with teams to develop detailed project plans and ensure alignment on deliverables.
- Build and nurture relationships to influence stakeholders and teams, exercising indirect leadership across various organizational levels, including VP/SVP, to drive project success.
- Communicate key project information effectively, tailoring messaging based on audience, and simplifying complex concepts to ensure clarity and understanding.
- Develop a deep understanding of company vision, strategy, and key initiatives, and become knowledgeable about the functional area of the project to challenge assumptions and provide strategic guidance.
- Facilitate and lead meetings of varying sizes and purposes, ensuring engagement, focus, and alignment among participants, tailored to the specific audience.
- Support and lead digital transformation projects, identifying opportunities for technology integration, and collaborating with Business Services departments to implement new technologies effectively.
- Identify, document, and escalate project risks and issues as necessary, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact and ensure project success.
- Solve problems by assessing situations, leveraging data, identifying root causes, and developing potential solutions to keep projects on track.
- Operate effectively in ambiguous environments, creating clarity and direction when faced with uncertainty or shifting requirements.
- Identify and assess the impact of project changes on other key initiatives, ensuring that dependencies and cross-project implications are properly managed.
- Develop and track metrics and KPIs to measure the success of transformation initiatives, ensuring goals are met and outcomes are clear.
- Manage collaboration and communication with internal and external teams, ensuring all teams have the resources and support they need to work efficiently. Provide regular updates on project progress, financial governance, and any issues or risks.
- Oversee Business Services departmental budgets, acting as the primary contact for budget analysis, and working closely with VP-level direct reports to communicate financial performance during monthly and forecast reviews.

Qualification & Requirements
This is an exempt position with a salary midpoint of $72,900. Compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, qualifications, and geographical location, with offers potentially ranging from 10-15% higher or lower than the midpoint. Note that qualifications may be met as a result of lived experience, volunteer work, professional experience, and/or formal or informal training. Requirements include:
- Applicants should have at least 5-7 years’ relevant experience with at least 3-5 years’ experience in a non-profit environment
- A bachelor’s degree in economics, business management, project management, organizational design or other relevant disciplines
- The successful candidate will have awareness of project management, change management, strategy management, with a focus on detail, documentation, and reporting
- Excellent technology skills expected with knowledge of MS Office Suite, Asana, Adaptive, and other software as necessary.
- Understanding of issues around anti-racism, anti-oppression, and multiculturalism
- Work or lived experience with BIPOC communities is of particular value
- Eagerness to work in an organization in which the dismantling of white supremacy is a high priority
