Description

The Digital and Technology team at General Mills executes a portfolio of projects leveraging multiple methodologies ranging from traditional to agile product management. We are looking for an experienced, passionate, outcome-oriented senior Project Manager to contribute to the Global Digital Transformation initiative at General Mills.

The Sr Project Manager is responsible for leading multiple strategic D&T projects or a program to deliver capabilities that are high impact, high value outcomes, while managing budget, scope, and schedule.

Sr. D&T Manager – Agile Portfolio Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead evolution of Agile Portfolio Management, fostering an agile culture and continuous value delivery. Manage and optimize value streams, ensuring strategic alignment.
  • Manage a hybrid portfolio (projects & products), utilizing and contributing to standardized best practices for optimal outcomes. Contribute to a dynamic roadmap, adapting to changing business needs in partnership with Product Group and Value Stream leadership.
  • Advance the MillsWork 2.0 Agile Transformation serving as a strategic Agile coach and change champion for Value Stream Leaders.
  • Support value stream/product activation, ensuring strategic alignment, business cases, and resource management. Establish lightweight governance, leveraging performance data (OKRs, KPIs) for continuous improvement.
  • Lead portfolio planning and resource allocation across value streams, advancing a value-stream-based funding model while ensuring technology roadmap alignment and transparent product cost/value.
  • Ensure consistent agile practices. Drive continuous prioritization, aligning initiatives with strategic objectives.
  • Define and track key metrics (flow efficiency, cycle time, business outcomes). Proactively identify and mitigate risks, ensuring portfolio stability.
  • Foster collaboration across teams. Lead and mentor a high-performing project management/agile coaching team.
  • Partner with Finance/HR for financial transparency and resource allocation. Champion efficiency and prioritization across the portfolio.
  • Collaborate for continuous improvement. Develop and deliver compelling portfolio narratives and presentations.
  • Steward value-driven decision-making across the SPMLC. Align portfolio work to business outcomes using measurable metrics.
  • Lead change management for effective portfolio delivery and agile adoption.

Qualification & Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or a related field
  • Willingness to work flexible/extended hours in collaboration with multiple time zones.
  • 20+ years of overall experience, including 8-10 years in program and portfolio management with a focus on Agile methodologies and Lean Portfolio Management (LPM).
  • Experience in business case development, working in digital and technology projects and managing standards-based programs.
  • Proven leadership and influence, achieved through strategic vision and strong partnerships, maximizing portfolio prioritization, decisions, and outcomes in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong financial acumen, experience with business case development, and/or finance experience.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and unforeseen challenges, leading through ambiguity to consistently deliver portfolio success.
  • Ability to see programs with both a deep and broad perspective, understanding the interconnectedness of initiatives.
  • Proactive risk management, identifying and mitigating potential risks before they impact the portfolio’s success. This includes developing contingency plans and proactively addressing emerging challenges.
  • Ability to identify challenges and bring forward solutions in a collaborative way.
  • Exceptional communication skills, comfort presenting to large groups, and experience with storytelling and deck creation.
  • Comfort with guiding productive discourse discussions and making tough decisions.
  • Collaborative by nature with a strong focus on enabling team culture.
  • People management experience with a proven track record of effectively developing talent.
  • Deep understanding and experience with Traditional Project (Waterfall) & Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, XP), and Agile scaling frameworks (SAFe, LeSS, etc.) and strategic application to work to maximize outcomes and effective ways of working.
  • Experience with value stream mapping, roadmapping, and interdependency identification.
  • Understanding of portfolio management and delivery tools.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with General Mills standard/best practices for Portfolio/Project Management, Agile ways of working, Continuous Improvement, and Change Management.
  • Experience leading change and transformations with influential leadership.
  • Proficiency with data, insights, and performance metrics to support data-driven decision-making and value realization.
  • Experience managing large, techno-functional portfolios and programs, with demonstrated ability to bridge Digital & Technology and Business teams.
  • Strong business analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, complex, and transforming environment.
  • Flexible, reliable, and proactive with a strong sense of ownership and a “can-do” attitude.
