Description
Amgen is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Tax Manager – U.S. Direct – Tax Reporting to lead and expand our U.S. federal and state tax operations within the Global Capability Center (GCC) in India. This critical leadership role oversees a team of India-based Senior Tax Associates, driving execution across U.S. Direct Federal, International, and State and Local tax compliance, reporting, and provision workstreams for a global biopharmaceutical enterprise.
As a key member of Amgen’s global tax function, the Senior Tax Manager – U.S. Direct – Tax Reporting will be responsible for managing day-to-day tax deliverables, coordinating with U.S.-based Tax Directors, Managers, and Senior Managers, and ensuring accurate and timely execution of critical reporting requirements, including ASC 740, Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR), and regulatory filings. This role is responsible for managing the team’s business licenses and annual reports filings.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and mentor a team of tax professionals within the India GCC, fostering technical expertise, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Coordinate with the US domestic team and then engage on behalf of the Tax team in cross-functional leadership meetings and site-wide events to ensure alignment and visibility, aligning with Corporate.
- Manage the day-to-day deliverables of the India GCC tax team related to U.S. tax compliance and reporting (including US Direct Federal, US International, and State and Local). Ensure timely, accurate, and consistent completion of assigned workstreams.
- Partner closely with the U.S.-based corporate tax team to align on tax return preparation plans, deliverable timelines, and shifting priorities. Serve as the primary coordination point for shared responsibilities.
- Provide regular updates to U.S. stakeholders on India team progress, proactively flagging issues and offering technical guidance to troubleshoot and resolve challenges.
- Supervise the preparation and review of quarterly calculations and supporting schedules for U.S. tax counterparts, prepared by the India GCC team.
- Identify and implement opportunities for streamlining processes, leveraging automation and standardized practices where applicable.
- Maintain strong operating control processes, supporting Amgen’s compliance environment.
- Manage the implementation of the Country-by-Country Reporting (CbCR) review plan, ensuring timely and accurate completion of Form 8975 and related deliverables, while proactively identifying opportunities to enhance reporting processes and compliance efficiency.
- Review India GCC’s team’s work related to submitting annual reports for U.S. legal entities and managing business license renewals in collaboration with external providers and U.S. teams.
- Collaborate with the US team and act as a subject matter resource for India-based Senior Tax Associates, providing guidance on U.S. corporate tax principles.
Qualification & Requirements
Basic Qualifications
- Chartered Accountant (CA), U.S. CPA, or equivalent qualification required.
- 8–12 years of relevant U.S. corporate tax experience, with a focus on compliance and reporting.
- Strong technical command of U.S. federal and state tax regulations, ASC 740, and international tax disclosure requirements.
- Demonstrated success managing global tax teams or operations in a shared service or GCC environment.
- Proficiency with tax software (e.g., CorpTax, OneSource, GoSystem), ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle), and advanced Excel for data analysis and reconciliation
Preferred Qualifications
- Big 4 public accounting experience or in-house tax role at a multinational in biotechnology/life sciences.
- Experience managing tax compliance for a Global Capability Center (GCC).
- Familiarity with U.S. international tax regimes (GILTI, FDII, BEAT) and R&D tax credit issues.
- Strong understanding of global transfer pricing and intellectual property structuring.
- Experience with process automation and analytics tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau) is a plus.
