Description

The Director of Career Services Learning provides vision, strategy, and provides insights for career outcomes to the university. This position leads the department leadership and shared services team; works with appropriate university committees, college leaders, and college career directors. The Director provides resources and trainings, and teaches courses relevant to career progression, student development, and student success.

Key Responsibilities

Provide vision, strategy, and leadership for Career Services

  • Create a climate and culture of teamwork, trust, and commitment that focuses on the strengths of the staff and maximizes their opportunities to make meaningful contributions.
  • Directly supervise shared services team and support optimal department coordination.
  • Facilitate department decision-making regarding resources, tools, and systems; establish area policies and procedures to enable the work of serving students.

Promote student success in career engagement with university and college leaders, faculty, staff, and external partners.

  • Consult/collaborate with college career directors and campus community how to best support student success in career and life planning and post-graduation outcome attainment across all student demographic groups.
  • Report periodically to college career directors regarding the career and life post-graduation outcomes of their student populations and engagement in career development activities.

Empower students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to fulfill their career and life goals

  • Provide resources, trainings, and teach courses relevant to career progression, student development, or student success.
  • Coordinate trainings to campus departments, present in classes, seminars, and workshops.

Collaborate and provide leadership to campus colleagues and industry professionals by being a thought leader and innovator of careers at BYU (10%)

  • Maintain a working knowledge of careers at BYU
  • Contribute to the body of knowledge of trends, best practices, and research in higher education.
  • Participate in professional development, benchmarking activities, and involvement with national, regional, and state professional organizations (conference attendance or giving presentations).

Qualification & Requirements

Education/Experience

  • Minimum education/experience required
    • Master’s degree in advising, human resources, MBA, student development or related fiel
  • Preferred
    • Experience in educational administration and 5+ years’ experience in a university career center

Skills, Abilities, Knowledge, Licenses, and Certifications

  • Excellent leadership skills to effectively lead and provide strategic vision and direction to university advisors, career directors, career managers, and support personnel
  • Superior ability to communicate with university administrators, faculty, and students
  • Advising certificate or equivalent
  • Knowledge of student academic and career development
  • Knowledge of developmental advising and career counseling
  • Knowledge of colleges, departments, and university structure
