Description

The position leads the strategic development and operational delivery of shared education and learner support services across the organization’s portfolio of programs. This position leads the shared services team that includes, but may not be limited to, centralized support for: learning management system (LMS) and other educational technology strategy, and administration, education activity development workflows, continuing education (e.g., CME & JA), accreditation compliance, abstract submissions, and faculty management.

In this leadership role, the position will drive efficiency, quality, and consistency in the execution across the organization’s in-person, online, asynchronous and hybrid learning initiatives. The position collaborates closely with internal stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of educational services that support ACR’s mission of empowering rheumatology professionals to excel in their specialty.

Senior Director, Learning Shared Services

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Operational Oversight

  • Lead the strategy and continuous improvement of shared education and learner services, ensuring scalability, innovation, and alignment with ACR’s mission.
  • Optimize cross-program support functions (e.g., content delivery process, LMS administration, joint accreditation, outcomes assessment).
  • Collaborate with all areas of the organization to coordinate and manage organization-wide, learner-focused initiatives. This is a cross-functional role responsible for implementing scalable processes, technology, and reporting solutions that ensure each of the ACR’s departments are working together optimally.
  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of service standards and operational protocols to ensure consistency and high-quality delivery across all education programs and products.

Educational Services Management

  • Oversees the centralized team that supports content delivery and process workflows, digital learning solutions, and accreditation/compliance for the organization, as well as abstract management, medical education grants and faculty support/ management.
  • Oversees the team responsible for the design and deployment of educational products including live courses, enduring materials, webinars, and on-demand learning.
  • Ensure the standardization of project workflows, templates, and digital tools used by all activity creators across the organization.

Technology & Platforms

  • Develop the strategic direction and oversee the effective implementation and management of the learning management systems (LMS) and other educational technologies.
  • Collaborate with IT and vendors to ensure seamless integration and user experience across systems.
  • Lead the advancement of innovative learning formats and technologies, ensuring they reflect best practices in adult learning.

Accreditation, Compliance and Medical Education Grants

  • Ensure processes and workflows support compliance with joint accrediting bodies, ABIM MOC and other relevant regulatory/accreditation requirements.
  • Provides oversight to ensure the medical education grant processes and timelines are adhered to within the Education Department initially, and then the organization.
  • Provide oversight to ensure appropriate reporting systems and analytic capabilities to support accreditation and medical education grant reporting.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor a cross-functional team in the delivery of learning shared services.
  • Cultivate a collaborative, service-oriented culture within the shared services team, with internal stakeholders across the organization, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to staff and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing.
  • Create and maintain a positive, collaborative, and cohesive work environment.
  • Support and empower a team of direct reports and colleagues through clear goal setting, ongoing guidance, and collaborative leadership

Budget & Performance Management

  • Collaborate in the planning and development of the shared services team’s budget, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and financial sustainability.
  • Oversee the shared services team’s overall budget, including forecasting, monitoring expenditures, and preparing regular variance analysis.
  • Monitor resource allocation to assess operational efficiency, identify gaps, and support data-informed adjustments.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for cost optimization, workflow automation, and service delivery enhancements, leveraging industry best practices and emerging technologies.
  • Utilize data analytics and user feedback to inform strategic decisions, continuously improve service quality, and measure the impact of initiatives on organizational goals.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Up to 10% of travel is required to fulfill job responsibilities which may include evenings/overnight and weekends for ACR meetings, conferences, and staff retreats.
  • BA/BS plus ten (10) years’ experience in the continuing education field, preferably in medical education, with at least five (5) years’ experience in a supervisory role, or MS/MA/MBA/JD plus eight (8) years’ experience in a related field with at least three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory role.
  • Experience working with the LMS platforms, e-learning tools (e.g., Articulate, Storyline, Adobe Captivate), and project management systems, preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience managing cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to work with multi-level staff, volunteers, members, and vendors tactfully and efficiently.
  • Clear oral and written communication including experience communicating with internal and external teams that may involve project coordination, information sharing and resolution of problems.
  • Detailed-oriented and a self-starter with the ability to work independently, effectively organize and exercise judgment in prioritizing responsibilities
  • Demonstrated project management and process optimization experience, with a proven ability to balance multiple priorities, manage competing deadlines, and deliver results efficiently.
  • Proven strategic and operational leadership with strong interpersonal skills, a commitment to innovation and service excellence, and a data-driven approach to continuous improvement.
  • Experience with Google Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and JIRA or other ticketing software, Cadmium CD, virtual meeting software applications, virtual meeting platforms, presentation management systems, and file sharing.
  • Familiarity with and experience adhering to organizational policies and procedures for compliance with accreditation requirements as specified by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education TM (JA) and the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program, preferred.
  • CHCP – Certified Healthcare CPD Professional, preferred.
