Description

The Director, Support Services, is a key leadership role within Shared Services and has direct leadership over the Environmental Services (EVS), Parking Services, Patient Transport and Language Services.

This role involves leading administrative functions to ensure smooth daily operations to maximize efficiency, productivity, and achieve outstanding results. Responsibilities include optimizing processes, managing budgets, coordinating with various departments, and implementing strategic initiatives. The director will be responsible for the development and execution of Lean Daily Management practices and techniques and will also work in close collaboration with the Support Services Executive leadership team to facilitate progress towards strategic and operational goals for the division. In addition, they will be responsible for analyzing data, creating reports, and presenting findings to support business decisions.

The Director, Support Services, will need to work effectively within OhioHealth in a highly matrixed fashion with key internal and external stakeholders from one or more care sites. This role is expected to translate strategic goals of the organization into core business initiatives and processes that promote exceptional care for OhioHealth’s patients and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

30% – Administrative/Operational Oversight (Result Driver)

  • Accountable for the performance and results of the management team(s).
  • Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operation challenges.
  • Hires, trains, directs, and evaluates managerial roles consistent with human resources policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for implementing and on-going operational improvement related to Lean Daily Management processes.
  • Analyzing data, creating reports, and presenting findings to support business decisions.

25% – Leadership and Development (People Developer/Culture Builder)

  • Actively assesses the teams’ needs and provides challenging and meaningful work for their personal and professional growth.
  • Responsible for developing a well-rounded team where managers take ownership of their teams.
  • Promotes a culture of safety through leading HRO processes and demonstration of OhioHealth service excellence standards and other core values.

20% – Financial Management

  • Finalizes annual budgets and forecasts future capital needs.
  • Develops and maintains position control, manages resources and labor hours to remain within established budgets.
  • Reviews monthly DRR and explains variances to budget.
  • Anticipates and appropriately responds to resource demands.
  • Responsible for creating, analyzing, and advising leadership on Vizient/ODB reports, or other benchmarking tools/reports.

20% – Strategic Planning

  • Leads team(s) to establish measurable KPIs (for KPI boards/GEMBA) for EVS, Parking Services, Patient
  • Transport, and Language Services aligned with division’s strategic plans.
  • Monitors progress towards annual departmental accountabilities and adjusts plans, as needed, to continually improve.
  • Regularly reports on performance of strategic initiatives.
  • Aligns departmental FTEs to strategic priorities.
  • Continually observing, identifying, and responding to health care market trends in EVS, Parking Services, Patient Transport and Language Services.

5% – Vendor and Stakeholder Relations

  • Maintains positive working relationships with external stakeholders to improve collaboration and results.
  • Holds vendors accountable to achieve established service level agreements and performance metrics.

Qualification & Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Required)

Specialized Knowledge

  • Through understanding of hospital and support services operations
  • Understanding of surgical and procedural areas
  • Advanced financial analysis using decision support systems as well as financial reporting tools
  • Requirements by OSHA, Joint Commission, HFAP, Infection Control, and other agencies that govern the operations of the hospital
  • Demonstrated project management skills an ability to communicate complex issues and strategies
  • Experience in working in multi-disciplinary teams and in complex relationships
  • Excellent relationship and team skills
  • Strategic thinking
  • Executive presence
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Effective use of personal computer technology for generating reports, trending information and creating presentations
  • Proven ability to work with teams and build moral

Kind and Length of Experience

  • 5 – 7 years support services and healthcare experience
  • 3 – 5 years previous management experience
