Description
The Senior Manager of Sustainability will be a key part of our high performing Enterprise Sustainability team focused on enabling Caterpillar’s sustainability strategy. This pivotal role is both strategic and detail oriented, focused on advancing key projects with stakeholders across the enterprise and anticipating challenges to executing our strategy. This role is a key partner with Caterpillar leadership in defining and executing our sustainability strategy to help our customers build a better, more sustainable world.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as our technical and industry leader in corporate sustainability matters for Caterpillar
- Continually evolve environmental sustainability strategy that aligns with corporate goals and sustainability commitments.
- Build the capabilities in terms of environmental sustainability with key stakeholders, including being able to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience.
- Stay up-to-date with emerging environmental trends, technologies, and regulations to drive continuous improvement in our sustainability initiatives.
- Represent the company and sustainability efforts both internally and externally with credibility
- Drive business results through objectives that align with sustainability strategies and enhance the Company’s reputation on environmental and sustainability issues.
- Ability to lead and manage a team, and work strongly cross-organization and cross-functionally to drive shared objectives with partners such as Investor Relations, Engineering, Human Resources, EHS, Legal, Communications, and the Executive Office to support our sustainability strategy.
- Innovate in product development, supply chain, and operations by researching and evaluating evolving ESG trends, Best Practices, and legislation with a global perspective.
Qualification & Requirements
What you Bring:
- Sustainability Expertise: Knowledge of sustainability strategy; ability to integrate sustainability into the overall business strategy of the organization to build a sustainable business model
- Enterprise Perspective: Ability to work across the organization to understand enterprise challenges and opportunities, and drive decisions that best support Caterpillar’s strategy
- Influencing: Proven ability to effectively influencing across a large matrix organization; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
- Leadership and Developing Talent: Proven ability to lead direct and cross-functional teams; Passion for creating continuous learning organizations for developing talent
- Strategic Thinking: Knowledge of the importance of “big picture” thinking and planning; ability to apply organizational acumen and competitiveness to identify and maintain focus on key success factors for the organization
- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgement
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Environmental Studies, Finance or other area of study with clear and relevant experience in Sustainability
- 10+ years of relevant experience in related fields.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the Sustainability efforts.
- Current and clear understanding of broad ESG issues, including familiarity with GRI, IIRS, GHG Protocol, SASD, CDSB, IIRC, SASB.
- Exceptional attention to detail with robust analytical and planning skills; capable of handling complex matters under deadline pressure.
- A team player who can independently initiate and drive projects with equal prowess in cross-functional collaboration and advocacy.
- Excellent communication skills; adept at simplifying complex issues and providing clear analysis and risk areas and actionable recommendations.
- Strategic, creative, practical, and open-minded thinking with a keen business acumen focused on outcomes
