Description
Seeking a strategic and proactive Head of Bursary to lead the centralized Bursary office for a multi-campus private higher education group in Malaysia.
Based at the head office, this role manages bursary operations as a shared service across all campuses.
The ideal candidate brings strong financial operations expertise, a service-driven approach, and a focus on process efficiency, accurate student billing and collections, and improving the overall student financial experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the centralized Bursary team, promoting accountability and collaboration
- Oversee bursary operations as a shared service across all campuses
- Drive process improvements and system enhancements as Finance Business Lead
- Manage end-to-end student billing, fee collection, and ensure alignment with academic calendars
- Review and approve all fee setups, discounts, waivers, and scholarships
- Maintain billing schedules to support academic operations and revenue assurance
- Lead Credit Control in managing receivables, minimizing overdue accounts, and improving cash flow
- Oversee digital-first customer service and ensure timely, clear responses to student enquiries
- Improve student financial communications and documentation
- Lead financial integration of the Student Management System (SMS)
- Ensure compliance in e-invoicing, reconciliations, and system processes
- Deliver accurate financial reports and maintain standardized policies and controls
- Manage escalations and collaborate with cross-functional teams
- Liaise with internal and external auditors on bursary matters
- Identify risks and ensure compliance with financial regulations
- Set and track KPIs, SLAs, and performance goals
- Build a performance-driven team and support talent development
Qualification & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional qualifications such as ACCA, CPA, or equivalent are an advantage.
- 8–10 years of progressive experience in finance operations, with at least 3 years in a senior or leadership capacity.
- Strong background in student finance or fee management, preferably within higher education or shared services.
- Demonstrated experience in leading teams and managing large-scale projects across departments.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
