Description
Reporting to the VP of Human Resources, the Human Resources Director will contribute to the development of and execution of the corporate business and HR strategy. Focused primarily on the Specialty Solutions (SPS) strategic business unit, this position will partner with the SPS leadership and the HR teams to identify HR priorities and opportunities to strengthen HR processes in these areas: Organizational and workforce planning, culture and engagement initiatives, recruiting and pipeline management, onboarding, employee relations, performance management, recognition programs, compensation, policies and procedures, compliance, training, benefits. Looks for opportunities to make processes more strategically meaningful; simplify or automate; benchmark and continuously improve. Foster a workplace environment consistent with the values and mission outlined by the leadership of the company. The goal is to make the most of the human potential of the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Serves as the teammate to SPS leadership and HR leaders. Serve as an advocate for employees.
- Selects, develops, evaluates and leads a team of human resource professionals with the goal of earning a high level of credibility as an effective internal consulting group. Stays close to the SPS team and proactively identifies and communicates employee/risk areas to SPS and HR leadership and recommends mitigation or response.
- Responsible for advising management to ensure company compliance with all federal, state, and local laws related to employee benefits, compensation, employment and training. Remain current with changes in human resource and employment law and manage company relationships with state and local regulatory agencies.
- Analyze trends and HR metrics to develop and implement solutions, programs and policies necessary to drive company results.
- Develops comprehensive change management strategies to guide the function from current to future state, anticipating challenges and recommending solutions for complex problems.
- Visit all sites on a consistent basis working closely, coaching, mentoring, and developing site HR representatives and management team.
- Oversee handling of serious employee issues and advise leaders on action while reviewing with corporate and legal, as necessary, until resolution is reached.
- Conduct investigations, including sexual harassment, discrimination and other employment related concerns.
- Coordinate major changes with management, including organization design, reorganizations, HR initiatives, etc.
- Review policies at different sites for consistency and hold meetings with management to review new policies.
- Ensure maintenance of documentation/summaries of all employee relations issues; review performance improvement plans for employees, when appropriate.
- Review all senior management completed performance review forms and ensure a timely goal-setting and performance management process is executed throughout the organization.
Qualification & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field. Master’s Degree preferred
- 12+ years of progressive Human Resources experience.
- Experienced with working in a matrix environment and supporting multi-sites, multi-divisions, and shared services functions.
- Background in specialized HR topics such as employee relations, compensation, succession planning, organizational development, recruiting, COBRA, FMLA, HIPPA, disability, training, HRIS systems, preventing discrimination and sexual harassment, etc.
- Operationally strong, detail obsessed. Sees the big picture and understands how things connect. Must be able to operate at both strategic and tactical levels. Track record of partnering with leadership teams and hands-on execution.
- Enjoys spending time at sites and engaging and building relationships with site teams and employees.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and manage stress. Ability to work under tight time constraints, handle sensitive data, and multi-task so that deadlines can be met.
- Ability to use PC and widely used software packages, e.g. spreadsheets (MS Excel), word processing (MS Word), HRIS/database, Talent Management software systems.
- Strong operational experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Moderate travel as needed. Ability to travel among the site, to corporate, and other business-related travel.
