Description

We are conducting a search for a leading defense contractor in Cleveland. This position requires a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead and manage our accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, internal controls, and team leadership. The ideal candidate will have significant managerial experience and strong experience in corporate finance, ideally from a large company with over $100M in revenue.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead shared services accounting functions including cash, accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll.
  • Collaborate with the Global Finance Team to ensure proper accounting treatment.
  • Oversee day-to-day cost accounting operations ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness in financial transactions.
  • Implement process improvements and efficiencies in accounting workflows.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and distribution of timely and accurate financial statements compliant with GAAP.
  • Analyze and report financial performance metrics and KPIs to Sr. management.
  • Lead the preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements and liaise with external auditors.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Finance on the annual budgeting process.
  • Monitor budget variances and provide detailed explanations for discrepancies.
  • Utilize advanced forecasting techniques for financial trend analysis.
  • Design, implement, and maintain robust internal controls.
  • Conduct comprehensive audits of financial operations and recommend enhancements.
  • Provide mentorship, leadership, and professional development for accounting staff.
  • Set clear performance expectations and conduct regular performance reviews.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory laws.
  • Partner with external tax partners on all U.S. filings.
  • Study and interpret accounting regulations and advise management on compliance.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders in strategic planning initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of financial policies and strategies.
  • Assess and recommend accounting software options to optimize financial reporting capabilities.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and technological advancements in accounting and finance.

Qualification & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience in a managerial or leadership role.
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS), tax regulations, and financial auditing practices.
  • Expertise in financial management including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to convey complex financial information clearly.
  • Proven leadership qualities with experience in team building, motivation, and conflict resolution.
  • Experience managing a team, with direct management of at least 2 people.
