Description

Mapbox is looking for an experienced Manager, with talents in 3 dimensions – planning, operational excellence and leadership. You will be responsible to set vision and provide direction through your own multi-level Manager Organization and direct team guidance; write operational plans for your department; develop and coach Individual Contributors, Leaders and Managers the team; continually improve and expand the operational footprint of your area as complexity/scope increases; and make sure everything we work on is driven by customer needs, operational planning and has impact on the overall business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with a passionate group of Mapboxers, customers and market makers redefining the way the world moves. You’ll set the vision, create the strategy and drive the execution to achieve market success by delighting our customers as we embed data into the fabric of our services and their applications.

You understand that the right strategy is critical, but crisp execution and operational excellence is what gets it done. Also, the strategy will change as customer needs and the market evolve.
  • You will directly lead operations and engineering teams to build the future and leverage shared services to ensure excellence, quality and completeness of our data assets. You will be responsible for and take direct ownership over all facets of the division. You appreciate when to make tradeoffs between speed, scale and profitability.
  • Quality is non-negotiable and not an afterthought for you, but embedded and inherent in everything you do from what you ship to who you hire.
  • Operate the service and resources, provide expertise, and implement best project and people management practices across your teams.
  • Manage and develop the team through hiring, retaining, mentoring, coaching, and growing your people and leaders across all levels, create a culture where team members can learn & grow with the organization;
  • Write the 6-12 months operational and resource plannings for your area and be responsible for achieving the objectives by your teams.
  • Drive company, product, and team objectives, carrying your team and relevant stakeholders along in the decision-making.
  • Establish and continually improve operational and team productivity metrics across your services to ensure teams are meeting SLAs and delivering high-quality data that is satisfying customer expectations;
  • Continually monitor and improve costs and efficiency of your operations.
  • Work closely with Engineering teams and Managers across Mapbox on data projects and POCs.
  • Empathize with internal and external customers, and deliver projects that address their needs.

Qualification & Requirements

  • 5+ years of leadership: You have managed diverse teams of teams that include operational (non-engineering) and technical teams.
  • Ownership & execution: Own the vision, lead the strategy and guide the team to execute towards building the future of Feedback APIs and expanding differentiation of high-quality proprietary data layers.
  • Organization building: You understand the 10X difference between good and great organizations and strive to be the force multiplier to help your org get there.
  • Customer focus: You care deeply about your customers and their problems, and you work tirelessly to innovate on their behalf.
  • Growth mindset: Have the humility to accept mistakes, learn and grow from them.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills: Clear and persuasive communication of information in English to a broad audience, you can talk and write about complex ideas concisely to a wide audience.
  • Operational excellence: You drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement in your organization, you have experience building operational metrics and managing infrastructure costs.
  • Data informed mindset: You believe in the value of data informed decision-making and strive to measure things that are not straight forward but essential. You also have the right instincts to make speedy decisions in the absence of perfect & comprehensive data.
  • Hire & elevate: Great leaders understand the importance of hiring the best talent and creating a culture where team members can learn & grow with the organization. You demonstrate investment in coaching and stretching colleagues across all levels.
  • Experience bringing products to market: You have a proven track record of shipping successful products. You have experience coordinating deadlines, building economics, developing a delivery strategy, and enabling support teams.
  • Industry experience: You have experience building and maintaining projects or services that process large volumes of data, ideally working in GIS, Geodata or Navigation space is a plus
  • High standards for work: You drive a culture of quality on the teams you work with and know how to drive healthy tension between quality and velocity.
