Description
The Wesleyan Church Corporation (TWC) is looking for a self-directed and experienced Director of Shared Accounting Services who will report to the CFO and oversee financial and accounting activities of various entities served at its North American headquarters in Fishers, Indiana.
Key Responsibilities
SAS Management/Team Leadership
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures ensuring compliance with appropriate accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
- Manages outsourced functions.
- Develops, monitors, and achieves team goals.
- Directly supervises two part-time accountants. Oversees team operations including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving goals and objectives.
- Leverages strengths of team members, assists in the recruitment and hiring process of new team members, helps clarify roles and responsibilities, and develops and implements training programs to maximize and reach optimal individual development and organizational goals.
SAS Financial Accountability
- Responsible for the chart of accounts.
- Responsible for accurate and timely processing of payrolls and payables for entities served.
- Oversight and management of software systems/services utilized in coordination with leadership of the TWC accounting team.
SAS Reporting
- Responsible for timely and complete financial statements, and provides financial analyses as needed including recommending benchmarks to measure performance.
- Assists clients in budgeting preparation and monitoring as needed.
Compliance
- Coordinates external audit activity.
- Complies with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
Marketing and Customer Relations
- Ensures responsive and proactive customer service.
- Maintains excellent customer relations with leadership and staff of those served.
- Provides accounting, managerial, tax, and other advisory services as needed.
- Provides marketing and client acquisition strategy and execution.
Qualification & Requirements
- An unwavering commitment to Christ and the mission of the Church.
- Bachelor’s degree with an accounting major; MBA or CPA preferred.
- Solid experience in church and nonprofit accounting, budgeting, clergy taxation, and financial reporting. Wesleyan church or district experience preferred.
- A proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own the SAS function and responsibility for financial management.
- Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installation, advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allow for strategic data interpretation.
- A commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse team and the foresight to delegate accordingly.
- Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to others.
