Description

The CityTutor DC Chief Strategy and Operating Officer (CSOO) serves as the senior operations executive for the organization, overseeing all business policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP(30%): As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will co-lead strategic planning with the Executive Director to maximize our benefit to schools and students. You will be responsible for bringing the financial and operational lens to key enterprise decisions re: programming, staffing, and engagement with external partners. You demonstrate appropriate understanding of our programming, enabling you to serve as a trusted advisor to the Executive Director and organizational leadership on how strategy and decisions fit within finance or operational structures.
  • FINANCIAL ACUMEN (30%): You are responsible for prioritizing CityBridge’s fiscal health and sustainability. You are the organizational expert on all financial systems, including cash flows, payroll, and external contracting. You oversee our audit processes and manage the construction and oversight of our annual budget, and you are the primary liaison to the Board of Directors for updates and reports related to finance and development. You provide the Senior Leadership Team and the Board with accurate, detailed financial summaries which include data-informed recommendations and forecasts.
  • SYSTEMS BUILDING & INTEGRATION (30%): You oversee, connect, design, and implement systems and processes within the organization to connect programming to budget, with a keen eye on growing both. As the organization’s head of internal shared services, you ensure all operational processes are integrated, reflect our organizational values and norms, and meet the needs of both our business functions and our stakeholders. You lead an internal team which currently includes the finance, development, talent, and business operations functions and manage relationships with external accounting, audit, and development partners and other assorted vendors. You ensure compliance of existing programs, managing audits, justifying payments against duly authorized contracts, and foreseeing both compliance risks and equity risks for future endeavors. You also oversee all organization-wide staff training on key budgeting, compliance, and information capture processes.
  • LEARNING & INNOVATION (10%): Our organization strives to protect the time and space for every team member to learn (getting expert in their field, growing professionally, progressing on their equity journey), to innovate (ideating and stretching to try out new strategies, approaches, responsibilities), and to actively contribute to internal, organization-wide work that shapes our culture and our systems.

Qualification & Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in financial and/or operational leadership, with at least 3 years as a budget/financial analyst or equivalent required
  • Successfully led people and teams as a direct supervisor, lateral project lead, and contract manager; people management experience required
  • Ability to create clear, compelling financial reports and dashboards adapted to a variety of audiences
  • Demonstrated track record of successfully designing and implementing internal processes and procedures
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial structures; experience stewarding public grants preferred
  • Project management skills and ability to prioritize issues strategically and organize time effectively
  • Capacity for quantitative and qualitative analysis, drawing on data from multiple sources to generate insights
  • Commitment to creating a sense of belonging by overcoming practices that exclude and diminish people based on their identity, particularly their racial identity
  • Accurate sense of strengths and growth areas and capacity for responding effectively to feedback
  • Comfort with ambiguity and change; desire to work in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
